Interview with Guy Simoneau – One Good Life

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman January 7, 2025 9:54 am Tagged With: Acoustic, New York, Pop, pop rock, Rock, singer, songwriter, United States

Guy Simoneau-One Good Life

In “One Good Life,” Guy Simoneau calls for a return to authenticity and human connection in an era dominated by hustle culture and digital noise. From encouraging thank-you cards instead of texts to finding joy in good whiskey, high fives, and heartfelt hugs, the song’s lyrics serve as a poignant reminder to slow down and cherish the present.

In his 60’s Guy is a testament to the enduring spirit of folk-rock music. With a career spanning four decades from Maine to California and now, New York, his songwriting echoes the heartfelt storytelling of Tom Petty and the lyrical prowess of Bob Dylan. His acoustic guitar is an extension of his soul, weaving melodies to resonate across generations.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Guy about the latest project, AI in creativity, dream collabs, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

This AI thing is getting way out of control. I have students using ChatGPT to write death metal songs about country music…and country songs about being sad. You can feed some Ais a text prompt and create a Hollywood-quality short film. How do you feel about this new wave of technological innovation?

I’ve been in the tech world for many years. ChatGPT, and so many other AI applications, are incredible with what they can do. Creating visuals of President Trump cutting Kamala Harris’ hair! Wild!

We’re all going to settle in to how it best suits our individual needs. Some could call it cheating, but I feel it’s the next step with technology. The concern I have is the intellectual property rights that are being tested.

What’s your favorite song and/or favorite artist of all time?

Jackson Browne’s “Something Fine”. Perfection.

Bonnie Raitt is a treasure, still performing, playing amazing slide guitar, and giving back to the world. Someone to admire.

Congratulations on the release of “One Good Life” What are you hoping to accomplish with this release?

I initially wrote this as an appreciation and road map of my life, and something for my sons to follow. It’s now getting it’s “sea legs”, and kind of a mantra for all of us. I absolutely love the response I get from people.

What drives you to create? What keeps you going, especially on the bad days?

Every day I write something. Some of the songs end up on the floor, but I don’t care. I love getting on stage and performing, trying new things out, getting a reaction.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?

Tom Petty. Melodies and arrangements that are so memorable. His lyrics are catchy but have meaning.

Where is the best place to stay connected with you?

I have a monthly newsletter, “F.O.G”, Friend of Guy. Email signup on my website guryone.com. Instagram is the current flow of my life and highlights, again “Guyrone” on IG. Youtube videos are under Guy Simoneau.

I appreciate Your time. Want to say anything else before we sign off?

In “One Good Life”, I say “Be that Guy that people like to see.” I want to always be that Guy.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
