Interview with Hercobulus

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 8, 2019 1:17 am Tagged With: Central America, Metal, Mexico

Hercobulus

Founded in 2003, Mexico thrash metal outfit Hercobulus have been working tirelessly year after year. Having shared stages with acts such as Sentinel Beast, Atomic, Kill It, C.A.R.N.E., Skull Fist, Transmtal, Luzvel, Anarchus and more.

Now supported by Shadow of Death Records, the band is gearing up for bigger and better things in 2019. In this interview spotlight, I chat with the band about their newest release, their goals, challenges, technology and more.

If you love your metal aggressive, loud, fast and in-your-face, then Hercobulus is ready, willing and more than able to melt your face off! RAWK!!!

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are Hercobulus, a band of thrash metal from the city of Monterrey Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I have been interested in the world of music since I was a child, I grew up listening to rock and roll and I was motivated by the artists I liked, to the point of wanting to be like them.

When I started learning to play, it was an achievement.

I’m still on this path, thanks to that, and when people sing my songs it’s an extra boost to keep going.

How did you come up with the band name Hercobulus? Does have any special meaning?

Hercobulus is a huge red planet, it means the destruction of humanity, it is an unstoppable monster compared to the Earth. That’s where the idea comes from. We want to be unstoppable, a giant beast, that at the moment of introducing ourselves to people scream… look that is Hercobulus!

Was 2018 a good year for Hercobulus? What is your primary goal for 2019?

2018 was a year of ups and downs, and of learning. A year to create new music.

2019 looks very good, we signed a contract with the shadows of death records and we are about to go on tour.

We will present a new album and we hope to play at big festivals.

How is your latest release different from previous releases? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

Well, if there are differences, the music of the past records was a process of musical maturity, by which most of the musicians pass. It is also what one wants to express in the different stages in which one is living. What one always seeks, is that it is what we expected, that is transmitted to the people and ends up being liked by all.

What was the last song you listened to?

Scar Spangled Banner- Exodus. I like the riffs of this song and it has a very good lyrics.

What bands or artists do you listen to in your free time?

My favorites bands: Exodus, Slayer, Sodom, Kreator, Tankard, Destruction, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple
