Hillbilly Hippies

In this interview spotlight, I chat with members of Hillbilly Hippies about the latest release (Didn’t Say Goodbye), musical memories, motivations and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest project?

Our first single release for Hillbilly Hippies , “Didn’t Say Goodbye “  is available everywhere through this link  ffm.to/didntsaygoodbye

How does this project compare with your other release(s)? Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?

Compared to other bands we’ve been in this was different because we kept it to just three of us ; Michael O’Brien on lead vocals, drums and percussion, Christy Calabro on lead and bass guitar and vocals and Jackie O’Brien on rhythm guitar and vocals. So it was pretty efficient.

What motivates you to create music?

The pain of existence! Music is such an expressive way to tap inner strength and nuance of emotions. Music frees the mind and soothes the soul.

What’s one of your first or most powerful music memories? Did that play any role in driving you to create?

Jackie recalls sitting beside her Dad while he played piano and singing songs with him. It made her feel loved and safe and happy.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.

Elvis!! We just saw the movie and it inspired all sorts of excitement about the history and power of rock. We were thinking how great it would be to write a song with him.

What was the last song you listened to?

“Where No One Stands Alone” a duet with Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley. We came home from the film and Googled all kinds of history of Elvis and found this touching duet with his daughter, whom we met at one point because she came to our ranch for a birthday party.  And who is one of your favorite all-time bands/artists? The Beatles, we recently watched “Get Back” the mini series directed by Peter Jackson. We were fascinated by their songwriting and recording techniques.  Their creative output is just awesome.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you for what your doing for Indie Artists!!
