Jaysin Voxx-Deeper

Jaysin Voxx’s recently released single, “Cause Everytime,” made its way onto the Billboard Top 40 Airplay chart and led Jaysin to Music Connection’s list of Top 25 Artists! His music video for “Hands On Me!” has won many awards including Best Artist at the Los Angeles New Wave Festival, IndieFEST, San Pedro International, and Cinerockom. Jaysin most recently shared his single “Deeper” to much acclaim and is slated to release a string of momentous pop songs throughout the fall.

In this interview spotlight, we chat with Jaysin about the newest single, influences, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and streams can be found below.

Where are you from and what style of pop would you classify yourselves as?

I’m originally from the Bay Area where I was raised. My environment was always full of music. Most of my friends rapped, so I was the guy with the hook. And we did it all for always the same reason…girls!

I started out doing mostly R&B, then after moving to L.A., my sound evolved into what I call Pop With Soul, or PDC – Pop Dance Club.

What led you down the path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

Music was always my path. I was born on the stage. After growing up doing musicals and talent shows, a local agent discovered me; it was never big gigs, but some money and lot of experience. I stayed the course because as I grew up in the church, I realized how true it is that we only have this one life and we must live it full, pursue love. My aunt saw that love of music in me, and when she unfortunately died of Ovarian Cancer, I made her a promise to never give up.

How has your songwriting evolved over the years? Was there ever a moment where you hit the glass ceiling?

I believe anytime you feel you hit a ceiling, it’s a good thing. Being out of your comfort zone, having to work hard and really dig is what greatness requires. I’ve never been more happy and focused as an Artist and person than I am now thanks to being bold and venturing out! My latest single “DEEPER” on iTunes and also iHeart Radio was a total risk…and it paid off. I just let my muse guide me and the song wrote came to me through the haze. My songwriting has evolved to being more personal in the last year, that’s why I’m so excited for my album I’m releasing in October. Pop music today is missing that energy you get from Artists who actually write their own songs, its too formulaic now. It’s time to fill that void. I’m so thankful that people in my life have pushed me to not be only a singer, but a creator. Find me and follow me, I won’t let you down.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

There’s good and bad to our digital age. When I was first signed, I remember iTunes having to approve every new song that they take…now anyone and everyone can release music, even if it’s not finished. I think the challenge today is that no matter how easy it is to create some kind of musical work, if you are a True Artist, you must always care about it being real Art. Every one of my songs has been crafted, and I believe it shows. Words have meaning, I don’t choose them carelessly.
