Interview with Jewel Lasrado – Heavens

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 11, 2022 9:48 am Tagged With: Asia, Central Asia, India, Pop, pop rock, Rock, singer, songwriter

Jewel Lasrado-Heavens

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Jewel Lasrado about the music, adapting during worldwide lock downs, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I’m from Bengaluru, India. My style of music rock and pop.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

I’ve always wanted to do music and my family has always been music oriented. They have been a major source of inspiration, even for the kind of music I enjoy and indulge in. The music business is known for being extremely competitive which works out because I’m always looking for a new challenge.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

Heavens was my first official project as an artist. Preceding that, I had recorded a song called ‘Hero in me’ for a competition. I was only thirteen then, so I wouldn’t consider it very professionally done. However, it was a great experience. Heavens represented a heavy topic of a human’s ability to cope with death of someone he or she looked up to, and certainly had more of a rock feeling to it than Hero in me. Hero in me was a song dedicated to my love for Marvel and DC characters, and how each of them with or without their powers inspired me to be a hero of my own.  My upcoming project is a song that I made specifically retaining the genres of rock and a little punk pop, so do look forward to expecting more rock in the future!

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

Creativity, I believe, is a very touchy topic especially for musicians. Any form of creativity is driven by a powerful emotion, and for me it is driven by flaws and fallouts. It is quite easier for me to write songs about my problems than privileges. Sometimes creativity comes to me as a result of fatigue from focusing more on the musicality of the song. Most of my songs have messages behind them, they are a very personal possession of mine. The main message behind my music and its cause is creative freedom and free interpretation. A song means different things to people, so my creativity is motivated by the fact that I’m trying to express myself while others can too by interpreting my songs how they want to. I think what works out best for me sometimes to keep my creativity going is to try out something different and navigate new waters. Like I said, I always love a challenge.

What was the last few songs you listened to?

The last songs I listened to was ATWA by System of a Down and Everlong by the Foo Fighters.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

Currently I only stick to streaming platforms since I find them convenient. I may branch out into other modes of listening to music in the future.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

The best place to follow me and my journey would be on Spotify and YouTube under the name Jewel Lasrado.

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you for this interview, I hope you learnt something new about me and my music.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness.
