Interview with LAZR WOLF – When to Walk Away

LAZR WOLF

Known for their unique blend of pop, rock, and electric elements, LAZR WOLF’s debut single (When to Walk Away) , written by Aaron Ginns, features smooth vocals and a soundscape produced by legendary producer Lenny White (Miles Davis, Return to Forever, and Chaka Khan), Bruce Miller, and Aaron Ginns.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with LAZR WOLF about the music, choosing a favorite song of all time, dream collabs and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

What is your favorite song of all time?

It’s way too hard to pick just one, but Neon by John Mayer is definitely up there….so much pocket!

What about this single makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?

I am really proud of the different forms this song has taken on its way to the final product. When to Walk Away started as a simple piano song, What we ended up with is a hook with a sonic mash of strings, synth bass, and heavily layered vocals. At the same time, we were able to keep the integrity of the song in tact.

What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?

With all of the discussion of the ‘downfall of the music industry’ people still love a great song! In my opinion, there is no greater joy. I am extremely motivated to keep creating in pursuit of writing a song that can join the list of timeless classics.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?

I would love to collaborate with Nile Rodgers. Everything he touches turns to gold, and he brings a guitar style to records that make everything extra groovy.

What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?

The last song I listened to was Folds Like Origami, by Kainalu, it’s such a great driving song. I love having it on in the car. I’ve recently been listening to a lot of: Role Model, Gracie Ella, and Gavin Turek…and about once a week I need to scratch my Foo Fighters itch 🙂

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

The dance floor at The Whiskey Brooklyn. Or…on instagram @aaronginns @lazr_wolf
