Interview with Lex Cole – One More Time

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman November 1, 2021 4:40 pm Tagged With: California, Los Angeles, Pop, R&B, singer, songwriter, United States

Lex Cole-One More Time

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Lex Cole about her debut EP (One More Time), adapting during a global lockdown, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I am originally from Yonkers, NY but currently live in LA! I’d describe my style of music as pop/r&b. I love having aspects of both genres in my sound.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

I’ve always wanted a career in music. It started from singing in clubs in Manhattan at 10 years old to attending Berklee College of Music to moving to LA & pursuing my dreams. I’ve been a full tome musician for the past 5+ years!

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

This project is my debut EP! It’s very heavily r&b influenced where the music I put out previously was more pop oriented. I’ve always love r&b music & am so excited for people to hear this sensual side of me.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

The biggest challenge for me last year was not being able to perform. The pandemic cancelled all of my gigs so i stead of putting all my energy into performing 3-6 night a week, I did some live stream concerts but I was mainly writing & recording a lot of music. Last year I put out a song every other month & continued to work on my debut EP.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last songs I listened to were “Over” by Lucky Daye & “Anxiety (Burlinda’s Theme)” by JoJo.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

Streaming services make listening to a variety of music so easy, but I miss the days where I would go out & buy a cd & walk around with my CD player in my bag & headphones popping through jamming out to an entire album.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

My Instagram, Spotify profile & website are the places I post my most updated info to follow my journey!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
