Interview with Lyford – Right Now

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman October 25, 2023 10:39 am Tagged With: classic rock, indie rock, Psychedelic Rock, Rock, rock n roll, United Kingdom

Lyford

In this interview spotlight, I chat with the members of Lyford about the latest music, AI, dream collabs, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

AI (aka Artificial Intelligence aka Chat GPT 4.0)… How is it changing the music world? What are your thoughts about this new trend?

Andy (lead guitarist) – I think its more difficult now to get signed as labels will only sign you if your socials have big numbers , years ago it was more about the music

Jen (singer) – The new trend is destroying live bands and music in general. Whats happening to the true fans !! Its rubbish for the industry !!

Craig (Bassist) – Most music i hear these days seems artificial and not very intelligent anyway !!

Tony (Drummer) – All this social media malarkey to get noticed is very hard frustrating work especially if your not tech literate !! You dont know who to trust online to help promote your songs as there are too many scammers using bots instead of real people to make your numbers look good when really not many people have actually listened to the songs giving false readings

Can you choose a favorite song of all time? Or is this an impossible task? If yes, what’s the song? If no, what’s your current Top 3?

Andy – Jimi Hendrix – Voodoo child

Jen – Comfortably got to be Numb by Pink Floyd

Craig – Green Onions by Booker T & the MG’s  ,  Raining Blood by Slayer ,  Our mutual friend by Divine comedy

Tony – Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones , Wipe Out by The Safari’s , Wonderwall by Oasis

What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?

Andy – I wanted to write a song that got everyone grooving , my goal is to write songs that people want to hear to fill that void in the market

Jen – All original songs are special where as covers are an easy option unless you make them your own

Craig – Just to create an upbeat feel good song

Tony – Our goal is to better the previous song and we definately achieved this with our new release “Right Now”

What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?

Andy – I just love music , i think about my songs all the time on how i can improve them , i love the music environment both playing live and in the studio

Jen – Music is an amazing release of expression , our songs have that special something

Craig – Everyone is creative and with modern technology anyone can have a go

Tony – I love creating a masterpiece from the raw beginnings on a crumpled piece of paper to the end product in the studio , it gives me a real buzz and sense of achievement when i hear good comments about our music

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.

Andy – Noel Gallagher he is such a quality songwriter and i would love to jam with him

Jen – Michael Hutchence of Inxs and Michael Jackson both from different ends of the spectrum but both great showman and geniuses in their own right

Craig – The Strokes because i love the odd way they approach songs , melodic and querky

Tony – If i had to pick a drummer who inspires me the most it would be Ringo Starr of The Beatles , he wasnt a flashy drummer but he was a solid technical drummer

What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?

Andy – Metallica – Enter Sandman live and my favourite all time band is AC/DC

Jen – Overcome by Nothing but thieves is an awesome song. My best band of all time has to be U2 because they inspired me with a song performed at live-aid called Bad changed my life

Craig – Doves playing Boards of Canada and my best artist is Thom Yorke

Tony – Right Now by Lyford and my favourite band of all time has to be The Beatles because they were the pioneers of rock and roll

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

Andy – Spotify / Facebook / Instagram

Jen – I personally dont get involved in the media side thats Andy’s forte

Craig – In my local pub

Tony – Facebook / Lyford webpage and on all music streaming media’s

I appreciate Your time. Want to say or plug any other projects before we part ways?

Andy – We are a must see new up and coming band with a great pedigree. We describe ourselves as a 4 piece Indie rock band playing original music that grabs you and shakes you to pieces leaving you wondering what just happened

Jen – We have whatever a load of people are looking for , please help us spread the word it’s our time

Craig – Keep a look out for when Lyford is playing live next and read our website to keep updated on our tour dates and new releases

Tony – Please follow us on our facebook page and feel free to like and comment , love and peace.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
