Matt Adey

In this interview spotlight, we chat with Matt Adey about influences, challenges, the newest project and more.

Full Q&A along with links and streams below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Warwickshire Born Wiltshire Raised West London: Domicile Misbehaved!

At the moment I’m writing an album, predominantly of love songs called ‘ Love and Deeper cuts’ in a rock pop indie singer/songwriter vein. I try to create or tell a story with emotion that people can connect with and hopefully get hooked on singing the chorus.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

All the bands and artists at crucial ages that have affected me combined to today can be heard in this new album and hopefully I have created something that is unique to me. What motivates me is the creative process and the feeling of achievement that it gives.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

For this album I worked with the living legend that is Chris Potter, you will have heard the album Urban Hymes by the Verve. It has made all the difference working with a producer who really encourages and believes in what your doing. I set out to create a body of work that is current, timeless and that is the best collection of songs that I’ve written to date.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

It can be challenging; Musicians need to have a business head, they need to be able to do all aspects of their online presence, from social media sites to film making, networking and marketing A lot of time is spent with the admin side of things and hopefully you try to find time to actually write songs.

Musicians can essentially record, distribute and market themselves with today’s technology, so that is a huge help.
