My Words by Maurice Weeks is now available!

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Maurice Weeks about his latest release, technology, listening preferences and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m from Newmarket, Ontario and I would consider my music to be a range from r&b, pop and a little country.

What led you to choosing music creation as a creative outlet? Who inspires and/or motivates you to create?

I got a karaoke machine when I was 7 and just started messing around with it. I have always looked up to Eminem and R. Kelly.. but my personal inspirations are with my family and our everyday life.

How is your recent release, My Words, different from previous projects? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

My Words is about my personal struggle and it is a much more emotional release than my other projects. I wasn’t trying to accomplish anything specific.. I just wanted the more emotional part of myself to come out and to keep on making good music and bettering myself.

I heard you were working on new music and planning a tour. What all can we expect from Maurice Weeks in 2019?

I am working on new music and hoping to release it this year. I am hoping to go on tour but there are no actual plans in place for it as of right now.

Name one or two challenges you face as a creative in this over-saturated, digital world? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

One of my challenges has been trying to get my music out there and having people hear what I have to say since most of my music has to do with everyday struggles. I guess technology has helped me because it has gotten my music out there more than it would have otherwise but I am still hoping to get more followers and people buying my album off of such places as Spotify, iTunes and google play.

What was the last song you listened to?

From My music: Right Next To Me

In General: I wanna be a balla – little troy

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

MP3s, I guess, because the world has gone digital.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I love Spotify because it tells you how many people are listening to your songs throughout the month and you have an outlook on which songs people are currently listening to and enjoying which gives me an idea of what kind of sound to create next.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

You can join my Spotify artist profile, add me on Facebook/Instagram @mauriceweeks since I am constantly promoting myself on my social media accounts.
