Interview: Meggi Faye

by Leslie Sherman December 19, 2024 8:43 am

Meggi Faye‘s latest single, “Moon & Back,” is a moving ode to unconditional love. Inspired by her bond with her daughter, Faye crafts an emotional journey through the stages of a child’s life – from infancy to adulthood. With her signature alternative folk sound, Faye‘s heartfelt lyrics and acoustic melodies deliver a universal message of devotion and vulnerability.

Known for her captivating voice and raw storytelling, Faye blends nostalgic and contemporary tones reminiscent of influences like Kathleen Edwards and Jenn Grant. Her ability to write from a place of honesty shines in “Moon & Back,” creating a deeply resonant listening experience.

“Moon & Back” highlights the universal struggles and joys of parenthood. Anchored by a stunning violin arrangement and ambient lead guitar, the song’s delicate instrumentation mirrors its poignant lyrics.

Q: What can you share with readers about your new project?
Moon & Back was a song written for my daughter. I was at a crossroads in my life and knew I had to make some drastic changes to have my inner peace. Leaving my marriage and making a huge move was going to impact her. I wrote this song as a reminder to myself and to her that unconditional love is always there and is always constant.

Q: How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the past?
I’ve never written a song about her before so I guess that’s the notable difference.

Q: What about this single makes you most proud?
I’m proud of the care and attention that this song received. I took the time to connect with it, let a friend/musician hear what I was doing, and just let it come out naturally.

Q: Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
I’m hoping to reach more fans and get listeners excited about the upcoming album Piece It Back Together.

Q: What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
I write most of my songs about my relationships with other people—how they change, evolve, and sometimes end. This is what inspires me to write.

What inspires me to keep going is that music brings me passion. It’s integrated into my being and feels as if it’s what I’m meant to be doing on this earth.

Q: If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
That is a great question. I would love to sit down with John Lennon and sing some songs. Also, a collaboration with Leif Vollebekk would be magical. Leif Vollebekk – Moondog (Official Video).

Q: What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
Best of Bob Marley playlist on YouTube. I love listening to Bob Marley during a snowstorm—it keeps me warm.

Favorite bands/artists: Too many to mention, but a few are Bahamas, Joel Plaskett, Kathleen Edwards, and Ani DiFranco.

Q: Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
You can find me on Instagram: @meggi_faye Meggi Faye (@meggi_faye) • Instagram photos and videos. You can join my mailing list on www.meggifaye.com.

Q: I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?
Thanks to all my listeners for sticking with me and being a part of my journey. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the new record Piece It Back Together set to come out in the summer of 2025.
