Interview with MËTA

MËTA

In this interview spotlight, we chat with MËTA about influences, challenges, their latest project and more.

Full Q&A along with links and streams below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are from Culiacán Sinaloa a city in the northwest of Mexico and we create rock/hard rock. Though Banda is the most popular genre here, we have managed to create a respected space for rock music, our music is energetic and explosive, this two things are the main characteristics that we reflect in our live performances.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

While people in our town were dancing and listening to Banda music, we were in our houses listening bands like Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC etc. We grew up listening to these rock icons and we realized that there weren’t any bands like those in our town. We decided to be that band and we have been killing it for 3 years now. but the passion we have for the music its that main reason to move us to do this, we have the belief that if you do what you like you are on the right way and for us everything we do in relation to the band either create music, content, practice, tour, gigs and everything, all this are things that we enjoy very much.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

Since the last release, we got/gained a new member. We have a new bassist and that has definitely affected our music. We also polished our sound without losing our style. We went a little out of our confort zone because we wanted to try different things to have a nice variety of songs.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

There are so many indie artists nowadays it can be difficult to get people to listen to your music.
But at the same time the internet is a great tool if you are unique and have great quality material. We have people from other continents listening to our music and that’s amazing.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

We are on Itunes, Spotify, Deezzer, Sound Cloud, Google Music, Band Camp and Apple music. You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.

Anything else before we sign off?

We invite you to give our music a chance and we hope to see you in one of our gigs. We would also like to thank MTM for this space.
