Interview with Mistine – Miss Used

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 8, 2018 8:24 am Tagged With: New Jersey, Rock, rock n roll, singer, songwriter, United States

Mistine

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Mistine about challenges, motivations, her latest project and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Hey! I’m from Matawan, New Jersey and I make rock music! Bring back rock n’ roll!!

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

When I saw Piglet’s Big Movie in elementary school, Carly Simon was performing her song surrounded by all of the animals from the movie. At that moment, I knew that music was something I had to explore. Every since then, I started taking guitar lessons, joined a rock band, picked up the bass, studied with the Rockit Live Foundation, and was lucky enough to end up at USC Thornton School of Music. The constant support and love I have received from my family and friends keeps me going! Music is constantly inspiring. Every time I play get on stage or see a different artist perform, I feel the urge to go write.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

This is my first ever release as a solo artist! I have released music as part of a band or through playing for other artists, but this release is so special because I wrote and produced the songs by myself. Since I am usually just a sideman for other people, the main goal was to express my own feelings to the world through these songs.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

Due to the over-saturation of music, there’s so much on the market that it is hard to break through. However, the technology in this digital age has helped me to connect with new fans on Instagram and Facebook. Also the rise in streaming service, such as Spotify and Apple Music has made it easier than ever to share my music with the world and for people to find my music and listen to it anywhere! In the car, at home, on a run.. whatever works best !!

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

You can find my music on all digital streaming platforms…Spotify, Soundcloud, Apple Music, Amazon, Tidal, etc.

Also, you can find me on all social media at @mistinemusic

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter…the works!

Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you for having me! So excited to share the rest of my tunes from this EP with the world!!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
