Interview with Moonray – No Stranger to Love

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman January 16, 2020 6:55 am Tagged With: Austin, electro-pop, indie pop, Pop, synth pop, Texas, United States

Moonray

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Moonray about their latest music, social media, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Barb is from Monterrey, Mx and I’m from Texas, but based in Austin, TX.
Our music can be called cosmic indie synth-pop, we love synthesizers and mixing vintage and modern sounds.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

We both love music so much and has been in each of our lives in different ways. The desire to be able to create something that makes people dance and feel something is what has led us to continue this path. Being able to grow with each new song that we create and understand more and more about music, it’s a rabbit hole of enjoyment. And you know legacy and stuff, we hope we can instill musical values into our children. And who doesn’t want to bang on a drum ?

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

Our new release is different, it’s our first bilingual song even though it’s a small snippet of Spanish.  Check out the bridge. We set out to create a song that reflects a past stage in our relationship.

Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?

We are loving this digital age. Although the downside is the fact that it’s easy to get into the tech hamster wheel; email-> Facebook -> Instagram -> repeat. We all know a massive amount of screen can be taxing on the body, mind and soul. But as an artist it has allowed us to share our music with more people that we could ever imagine. We’ve been able to meet people in other countries who share similar interests and enjoy our music and for learning, you can’t beat it! There’s unlimited ways to educate yourself as an indie artist.

Where can we follow you online and hear more music?

We are on Facebook but enjoy hanging on Instagram. Pop in say hey! We love meeting new people. You can find all our singles on all streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music, type in Moonray.

Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you so much for having us! Its Been a pleasure. Keep a lookout for our next single coming out in December.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
