Interview with Morning Fuzz – New Moon

Morning Fuzz

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Morning Fuzz about their latest release, AI in music, dream collabs, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

This AI thing is getting way out of control. I have students using ChatGPT to write death metal songs about country music…and country songs about being sad. You can feed some Ais a text prompt and create a Hollywood-quality short film. How do you feel about this new wave of technological innovation?

I think it is scary but unfortunately the future.

I don’t think AI should be used as a substitute for creativity or talent. Kids messing around and having fun with it is one thing but If you are a musician who releases music and you use whatever the AI bot shits out to “write” a song, then that’s just lame. Put the 10,000 hours into your craft and have some pride in your art. If it doesn’t come from the heart, it’s not real. But hey, what do I know?

I know it’s hard…but what’s your favorite song and/or favorite artist of all time? If not favorite, in your top 3?

That is really hard for me to answer or give just 3. I will give you my top 5 artists based on the consistency of always going back to listen to them for the last 25 year or more and always being satisfied.

In no particular order:

The Beatles

Foo Fighters

Superdrag

Nada Surf

Oasis

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific or different with this project? What’s the back story?

We went into the studio with 13 songs to record our second  album “Wherever We Go”. This time around we knew we were going to press it on vinyl. With the time restrictions to keep the vinyl sounding its best, we had to cut 2 songs.

We worked out a track list for the record where we thought the songs flowed and complemented each other well in the set. It was tough leaving out the 2 songs so we released them as singles. “New Moon” is a little different than the rest of the songs. It has a darker mood and a time signature change plus it’s a little more lengthy in time than our usual songs. So we thought it would stand out on its own as a single.

What drives you to create? What keeps you going, especially on the bad days?

There is always some kind of melody playing in my head whether I’m in a good or shit mood. Sometimes they go away, sometimes I record them into my phone in case I forget it or sometimes it just keeps playing over and over for days driving me crazy until I make time to sit down and get it out into a song. That’s how it has been since I can remember. It’s just a part of me and will be for the rest of my life. So I will always be creating and that drive will always be there. Sometimes the inspiration is not there and sometimes it’s flowing well. Just like surfing. The waves can be totally flat and then one day there is swell and boom! I try to be patient and never force anything.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
I think a cool collaboration would be with Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson (Pet Sounds/Smile era), Dave Grohl on drums and John Frusciante on Lead guitar. Everyone singing 5 part vocal harmonies. That would be awesome!

Where is the best place to stay connected with You?

Instagram and Facebook are the best way @MorningFuzzrock for those. Youtube channel @MorningFuzz We also have twitter @morning_fuzz and we made a TikTok account but are still trying to figure that out. If anyone wants to come teach us, that would be great. We have a website at www.morningfuzz.com where you can find all of our music and videos.

I appreciate Your time. Want to say anything else before we sign off?

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness.
