Nick Faye is a songwriter from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, living on Treaty 4 Territory. His new single, “Right Way,” is a deeply personal reflection on the masculine influences of his youth and their impact on his relationships – both with his partners and himself. The track is a raw yet triumphant statement of self-awareness, personal growth, and commitment to healthy love.
Blending elements of pop, rock, and country, “Right Way” pairs heartfelt storytelling with a dreamy, slow-burning instrumental that evokes the feeling of a late-night dance in a roadside saloon. The song is the third single from Faye‘s forthcoming album, (Good) Love, which arrives September 26th, 2025.
“Right Way” was inspired by personal reflections on growing up in a Catholic, patriarchal, and colonial society on the Canadian Prairies. Immersed in hockey culture, where “toughness,” ego, and repressing emotions were the masculine norms, Faye recalls moments in his past where he didn’t always treat his partners with the respect and empathy they deserved.
What can you share with readers about your new project? – I’m super excited to release “Right Way”, the third single off of our new album called “(Good) Love” that I’m gonna be sharing more info about in the future. “Right Way” is the last song on the album
How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the past? – “Right Way” is interesting because I had all of the other songs for the album written, and I knew I needed to write a song to finish the album. I drove up to Madge Lake in Duck Mountain Provincial Park in the middle of winter to finish the album, and I wrote most of this song at a cabin in one hour. It felt so seamless to write, and it really felt like the whole album finalized in it’s shape and flow on that trip.
What about this single makes you most proud? – This single makes me really proud because it feels like a celebration of making it through difficult times and consistent personal over the last fifteen years. I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about my own relationship with masculinity, and being able to enjoy and have fun with harmless and fun aspects of masculine influences in my own life, while also unlearning some of the less influences that I emulated as a kid/young man. I’m proud of the song because it feels like I’m treating myself and partners the “Right Way” after years where I may have hurt others as a result of emulating some unhealthy influences of my younger self.
Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release? – My specific goal for this song was just to write an interesting song to finish the album, and I think I accomplished that!
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going? – There are and were so many amazing songwriters and artists living in Saskatchewan who have influenced me as a kid and who continue to today. Thinking about some of the artists like Andy Shauf or Northcote or hardcore/punk/metal/indie bands like Sylvie or Means and how inspired I used to get coming home after a “local” show, and how I still get that same feeling when I go watch my friends’ bands today motivates me to keep trying to write songs so I can be a part of a really amazing artistic community in Regina and Saskatchewan.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out. – Oh man, that’s a wild question! Maybe Sloan or Barenaked Ladies or Carly Rae Jepsen or something.. Or maybe Prince? Would be fun!
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists? – These questions are too difficult haha! I suck at picking favourites.. I did just listen to a bunch of hockey podcasts haha, Go Leafs Go!
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected? – Foks can connect with me on social media, just look up Nick Faye!
I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off? – Thank you so much for everyone for supporting “Right Way” and our new songs and Auteur Research for helping to get the word out!
