by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman January 21, 2022 9:54 am Tagged With: Chicago, Hip Hop, Illinois, rap, United States

P-Moe

P-MOE a/k/a Parrish McGhee, born out of Aurora, Illinois, west suburb of Chicago, was raised on 70’s R&B classic music. P-MOE grew up in the church where live music fascinated him to the point where his love for music grew and made P-MOE have to take it seriously and make a career out of it.

With the likes of Puffy, Snoop Dogg, Dame Dash, Master P, and others that have taken music to the next level, influenced, and showed P-MOE the blueprint of how to be successful in the music industry. Today, P-MOE follows in their footsteps bringing music to the next level for this generation.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with P-MOE about the new release, enduring lock downs, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I’m from Aurora, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. I describe my style of Music to be R&B infused with some Urban Funk With West Coast Vibes.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

My inspiration actually came from home and church, me being raised in the 70’s. Everything was played from The Motown Family; from Marvin Gaye to Stevie Wonder to The Isley Brothers. The Winans, and cats like Richard Smallwood, and a gospel favorite John P Kee opened my range of music before hip hop. Me wanting to be in the business came from the likes of Run DMC and LL Cool J being on Def Jam Records, the first actual Rap label which to me which started mainstream. Russell Simmons and Berry Gordy are my true musical hero’s.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

I actually have three singles out and will be putting out an album soon, we’re searching for that new vibe. “Moving Around” is a single released in 2019, among other records, was waiting for the right time to put a strong push behind it. The visual is finally out and making traction for my next single which is scheduled to be released in February; “TRUST ISSUES”, with a visual to be released very soon. I trust and believe the lane I’m headed, with the style of music,  will make it to all major outlets as something new and fresh to the ears.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

The funny thing about making music during these times of dealing with Covid,  it has definitely been challenging, but with me it was an extra kick to stay positive and take my creative hustle up three notches during the down times. I finished my album and shot four videos in the last two years, and now dropping another single in February, so I definitely adapted.

I stayed focused on building my brand and taking ANJEL BERRY PUBLISHING to the next level. Kept a positive team around me who understood the mission and had right energy to keep my vision going.

I believe we all were put here for reason and a season. I feel my purpose is to represent me and my brand as a blessing to others, while creating other avenues to create, and motivate as a stand up guy.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last record I listened to is a song called “By and Bye” from an artist by the name of Jane Handcock, signed to Def Jam Records with Snoop. Her style of writing and her vocal ability is bananas, and  we have similarities with the vibes.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

I prefer MP3 and streaming for the time we’re in but I come from vinyl 😂😂😂
