Interview with Ralph Curtis – You Feel Like Christmas

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman November 18, 2021 6:12 pm Tagged With: Connecticut, Country, Folk, Pop, singer, songwriter, United States

Ralph Curtis-You Feel Like Christmas

Country singer-songwriter Ralph Curtis has released his first holiday single, “You Feel Like Christmas” available now!

The new track is a Christmas love song and features emotional vocals from Curtis and a romantic chain of lyrics backed by a beautiful piano performance: a perfect recipe for a sweet, new Christmas song to enjoy by the fire with a loved one this Holiday Season.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Ralph about the new music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I’m originally from Fairfield, CT. I like to think of my style of music as somewhere in between country, pop and folk. There are strong elements of all three of those genres that I believe makes up my sound.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

I’ve always played music, but a couple years ago I lost my best friend, my grandfather. I always knew whenever he passed away, I needed to write a song about him. I did just that, which was my first released single, and I haven’t looked back since.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

Obviously with this being a Christmas song it possesses a different feel/energy. I’ve always loved Christmas time and the music that comes along with it, so I wanted to create something for this time of year with my own original feel.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

I think the pandemic was actually the perfect creative recipe for me. It allowed me to stay at home, move work and life from the forefront, and just write music again. I think the biggest challenge now and is determining how to continue to move forward as an independent artist and make strides in the industry and the scene with things still so abnormal.

What was the last song you listened to?

“You Ain’t Pretty” – Nates Barnes

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

Streaming platforms. While they’re not the friendliest part of the industry for an indie artist I feel like it’s pretty easy to find new music almost every day.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

You can find me on Facebook/Instagram/TikTok at @ralphcurtismusic or visit my website, www.ralphcurtismusic.com to see my schedule, new releases, merch, etc.

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

I feel like everyone who enjoys holiday music has a holiday playlist. We really hope you’ll add “You Feel Like Christmas” to your playlist this holiday season!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
