Interview with Raw Proof – You Do You (RAW featuring Raw Proof)

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman March 15, 2021 9:36 am Tagged With: Hip Hop, rap, Tennessee, United States

Raw ft Raw Proof-You Do You

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Tennessee based Raw Proof about the new music video (You Do You), a collaboration with RAW as well as surviving the pandemic, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

How is everything in the (Tennessee) homeland? Managing to keep it movin’ during a worldwide pandemic?

Tennessee has one of the worse increases of cases (CoVid19).  In all reality, back in December of 2020 we were considered to have the worst increasing rate on Earth.  Like most creative recording artists we have been spending more time in the lab writing and tracking out vocals. We can’t wait until live performance becomes the norm again.

What can we expect when we press play on this new release?

A  Doombap landscape provided by Anabolic Beatz (UK).   Two Emcees (RAW feat. Raw Proof) laying down thoughtful lyrics including wordplay- double entendres-metaphors & similes.   A concrete hook written by RAW that will remain stuck in your head for days to come.  A song you can sing when the people you know refuse to mind their own business.  A song you can sing when you are having a good day and no one can knock you off your cloud, though they try.

Top 3 Hip Hop artists? In no particular order…

Hieroglyphics -Wu-Tang Clan – OutKast

Biggest takeaway from surviving 2020?

The Lord knows I have had my share of hard-times.   2020 was good to me despite the pandemic.
The protests and riots were real and very necessary.   My condolences to those whom were laid off, lost a loved one(s), or became infected.

What’s coming next from Raw Proof?

Expect more fire energy coming out of the collaborations with RAW.  Expect more music videos.
More beats by Eddie B. – Anabolic – and a gang of talented producers from Nashville.   Brand new
t-shirt design is on the way!!  Free stickers and C.D with every purchase!!

Anything else before we sign off?

They’re feeling this track in the U.K!!  They’re feeling this track in the South and on the East Coast of the U.S!!  Even the haters we know locally are noddin’ their head and giving us the respect talent and skill deserve.  Maybe we should switch our names to Talent & Skill. I don’t know.  I’m feeling it.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
