Interview with Skylar Love – Hey, Call Me

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 4, 2020 3:29 pm Tagged With: acoustic rock, indie pop, Pennsylvania, Pop, pop rock, singer, songwriter, United States

Skylar Love-Hey Call Me

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Skylar Love about her latest music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

FYI, you can call the phone number.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I am from Doylestown, PA and the styles of music I think I create, would be a mix of indie pop/rock singer/songwriter type music. I guess my music styles is a little mysterious and I believe as I continue to grow as a musician and artist I will begin to further understand what my music style really is.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

When I was younger I would always write poems and little stories and I always would sing but then when I turned 11 I wanted to play piano and I then began to write my own music from there on out. My main drive is to get famous so Gordon Ramsey can make me a steak, no I’m joking…maybe. But, my real drive is the crowd and having people sing back my own songs to me and actually enjoying my music and relating to it.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

When I first released music I won a contest out of The School Of Rock to go to LA and I got to record and release two of my original songs for the first time and it was just me and my keyboard. Now, I play guitar and my song writing along with my voice has matured a lot since then, which was last year. I will be releasing my new 6 song EP I recorded with my drummer and bass player on Oct 31st. I think I was just trying to accomplish making and putting out good music.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

I absolutely hate technology if I’m honest, it’s really just not my thing but since we are in this, ‘digital music age,’ I have to understand that it’s an important aspect now in the music world. Technology does help with booking a lot more gigs and playing different places as well as making my music heard all around the world.

What was the last song you listened to?

Golden by Harry styles he’s one of my biggest inspirations.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Vinyl all the way.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I prefer Spotify and YouTube when it comes to putting out your music for others to hear, I also would say YouTube out does Spotify for me because it’s free and accessible for everyone.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
