Interview with Slendo – In Bloom

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 28, 2019 10:50 pm Tagged With: Chattanooga, Hip Hop, rap, Tennessee, trap, United States

Slendo-In Bloom
Slendo-In Bloom

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Chattanooga’s Slendo about his newest music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and I could describe my music in a couple of words really. Fun, energetic, care free. I just try to go with whatever vibe the song or beat gives me really. But at the end of the day I’m still really all about having fun with it.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I’ve loved doing music my whole life really. I grew up in a black household so you know different music was being played every day lol. What motivates me to keep going is the same thing that has always motivated me really, the love I have for music, and the drive to make this shit happen.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

This release is different in a couple of ways. My first release earlier this year, “Random Thoughts” was kinda like a coming out party I would say. It was also a full album, I think it was like 11 songs. With this one I feel like I’m kinda putting my foot down letting these people know who I really am, and that I’m not going anywhere any time soon. Also, this release is only 4 songs, and has kind of a different sound compared to previous releases.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

Hmmm that’s a good one. I would say trying to find a way to stand out, since like you said it is oversaturated and everybody is wanting to be a rapper now. It makes it kinda hard for the higher ups to sort through what’s legit and what is just some bs. But man as far as how technology has helped me? Man it’s crazy haha. You literally can find out how to do anything these days with a quick google search. People ask me all the time how do I do certain things, whether it be with marketing, producing, recording, or something else. You know what I tell them every time? Type that same question into google! Like they probably be thinking I’m trying to be funny but NO lol, literally its all there.

What was the last song you listened to?

Young Thug: Lil Baby. Whole album is legendary

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I grew up during the mp3 wave so I definitely gotta go with mp3s.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Defintely Spotify. Their services are just really dope and I’ve been using them for some years now. They also gave me hulu for free just for being a premium member haha so I definitely dig that. Also their playlists are some of the keys to getting into the industry at this point and time, but that’s more from an artist standpoint.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

You can find me on IG & Twitter @doloslendo, Facebook just search Slendo. Any platform you listen to music on just search “Slendo”, I’ve got a whole discography of music you can catch up on if you’re just now getting hip to me.

Anything else before we sign off?

Man I just wanna thank MTM for this opportunity and doing this for me. This is my first time doing something like this and it’s really dope, so you know I rock with you guys for life for just giving me the opportunity to just get myself out there. To anyone reading thank you as well, make sure ya’ll get that “In Bloom” August 30th and run it all the way up for me, it’s gonna be available on ALL PLATFORMS! To all my fans, just hold on for the ride cause this is only the beginning! Blessings to you all.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
