Interview with Slendo – Dolo

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 30, 2019 7:15 pm Tagged With: Chattanooga, Hip Hop, rap, Tennessee, United States

Slendo-Dolo

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Dolo Slendo about his latest music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Listen to Slendo on Spotify.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and I would say I mostly make fun loving, carefree music. But with this project I wanted to show guys a different side of me they may not have seen, and I think I executed that beautifully.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I’ve loved music my whole life honestly, been around it my whole life and really it’s not many other things I’m “great” at so it really is all or nothing with this for me.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

As I said earlier, I wanted to open up and show my listeners a side of me they haven’t seen before. That’s why the project is titled “DOLO”, I’m saying this is just ME myself and I. No gimmicks, no features, just pure energy. Negative/Positive is for the listener to decide.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

As you said it’s very over saturated…trying to find a way to stand out among your competition is always a challenge. Also not having the financial backing that someone with a deal or whatever would have can be very stressful/frustrating. But on the flip side, during this digital age, all of the tools (or most) that the labels are using are accessible with just doing a little research.

What was the last song you listened to?

Mannequin Challenge – Young Thug (feat. Juice WRLD) RIP Juice man shit still crazy.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Never really got into Vinyls like that. CD’s were what I grew up on, but MP3s will forever be the goat. I remember just loading my little mp3 player with songs from off the internet in my preteens. My mom being pissed off cause all the music was unedited lol, MP3s are definitely what I have the most memories with.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Spotify for sure. I just love their service and perks they give to customers. Also their playlists is literally how some of these artists are blowing up these days!

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

I’m usually most active on Instagram you can find me on there @doloslendo, same with twitter @doloslendo. As far as my music you can find it on almost all streaming platforms, just search “Slendo” and you’ll be able to find my whole discography.

Anything else before we sign off?

Just wanna thank all my fans that’s been with me throughout this year, BIG things coming next year of course. Shout out Middle Tennessee Music for the opportunity once again, and last but not least…make sure you go stream “DOLO” on ALL PLATFORMS 12/20. Album of the Holiday season no cap.
