SonyaJT

Singer, world traveler and business woman SonyaJT is preparing for the release of her new EP, Just Wanna Be Yours. You can find her single, All The Man That I Need, on Spotify.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with SonyaJT about her upcoming release, technology, her travels and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do you describe your style of music?

I am a citizen of Ukraine, but frankly speaking, I am not listening to Ukrainian music for about 7 years. Well, of course, there are a few bands or singers which I listen to time after time.

I am a big fan of western music, like we call it in our country. I would describe my style of music as pop music, mostly dramatic pop music with feelings of R&B, neo-soul, blues, jazz, funk.

You knew you wanted to be a singer when you were very young. How did you know?

I don’t know how to explain this. I just wanted to be a singer… from the first day of my life. I don’t know, maybe there is something in my DNA because I have a family full of musicians. Some of them were singers, some piano players or some wind instruments. So, yes, I think it’s just something in my DNA telling me that my life will be filled with a lot of music. I’m thankful I have this gift and opportunity to spend my life with music. I can’t imagine what would I do and whom I’d become without music in my life.

How is the music on your forthcoming EP different from your previous single release? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

No, I wasn’t trying to make something specific. As it is my debut EP, I tried to make every song different, not alike to each other. I want to show people every style I can work in. Of course, they have something similar like general style, sound, and instruments. But still, I can’t say that there is anything specific. Every slow song is different from each other as well as fast songs do.

Music on my upcoming EP is quite different from my previous single, at least by the fact it was recorded in 2014.

Not only are you a songwriter and singer, you are also a producer and a business woman. Do you have trouble finding a balance between creativity and business?

I have a YouTube Channel where I sing cover songs. =) No, I don’t have any troubles with it. My business is about music, so this is creativity as well.

What is your favorite thing about traveling and touring? Do you have any tours or events planned to promote your new EP?

My favorite things about traveling are all the amazing places I cannot find in my own country or even city; emotions that you feel and the people that you meet. Speaking of touring, of course, it’s an opportunity to perform and to introduce myself to new people, which is always fun and useful. Unfortunately, I don’t have any planned event to promote my EP but I hope there are some in a future!

What was the last song you listened to?

Meaning of Life by Kelly Clarkson

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I prefer MP3s. I think vinyl and CDs is too late for our time, MP3 is more comfortable these days. But speaking of sound, my opinion that Vinyl is always the best.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

You know, in our country you can just download any music for free. I’m not sure if that is legal, but we do this every time. Not only music but movies, games, e-books as well. You can find anything on internet and simply download it. I am not an exception, I also used to do that. I used to download music for free, that was what I prefer. But as I grew up, I understood why we shouldn’t have it for free. This is somebody’s work, somebody’s time, money. So now I prefer Apple Music. This is easy, I like when I have all my music in one app and I like more if that app isn’t a third-party app.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

I think the best place is Instagram. I am trying to be more active on Twitter and Facebook, but Instagram is very much useful. There is everything I need to connect with people.

Anything else before we sign off?

Yes. I want to say thank to everyone who reads this interview. I will be happy if you support and follow me on social networks. Please, listen to my music on all common spots! I appreciate everyone who finds my music or me as a person helpful.

Thank you for your attention, thanks for the interview. Have a nice day!
