Interview with Sunday Jet Lag – It Takes A Lot To Know Yourself

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman January 12, 2019 5:00 am Tagged With: alternative rock, indie rock, Kentucky, Rock, United States

Sunday Jet Lag

Sunday Jet Lag is an alternative band made up of 4 life long friends. Music has always been a hobby for each of the members, but it recently became something more to all of them. Each member asserts their own ideas into every single song to really make something special, mixing genres, styles, and crazy ideas, then relaying it through each instrument gives Sunday Jet Lag a sound like no one else’s.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Sunday Jet Lag about their debut album (It Takes A Lot To Know Yourself), challenges, motivations and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are from Louisville, Kentucky. We make our music with tons of different influences that play into our sound. The best way to describe our sound is loud & heavy, pretty & quiet.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

all of us have loved to jam together and we’ve always been best friends but we wanted to finally take it a step further because of how much we all care about making music. it’s what we’re all going to college for and it’s want to do for the the rest of our lives.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

this is our first ever release, we want to show the world what we’re capable of and we made it the best quality we possibly could because it’s important to us that we get a following while in our last years of high school.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

a lot of people tend to overlook the process of making music and appreciating the hard work and passion we’ve all put into this record. there are some people that appreciate it but a lot of people in our modern era prefer electronic rap beats instead.

What was the last song you listened to?

Portal by Pinegrove

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

We prefer to listen through MP3s but we all love to collect and play vinyls as well.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

We all use Spotify. We love how user focused it is, and it’s just an all-around great platform to stream music on.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Definitely Instagram, you can find us @sundayjetlag

Anything else before we sign off?

We’d love to be more involved with the music industry and we really appreciate the opportunity to have us on the page. thanks again!
