Interview with The TAPI Project – Paigam

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 9, 2021 8:42 pm Tagged With: Acoustic, Asia, Central Asia, Folk, India, singer, songwriter, World

Tapi Project

TAPI echoes the contemporary India and its new gods & demons: urban life, money, lost roots, alienation, etc… and the challenges faced by the common man in a modern world.

TAPI‘s music is woven like a fabric, organically grown on Yogi’s poetries. Through Swati’s powerful and sensuous voice, the lyrics are coming alive, swallowing us in an ocean of emotions, singing stories about rivers, cramped up life, lost values, and  in essence, the universal search for the self.

In this interview spotlight, we chat about the music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are from Surat, and we are not following any genres. Our music is trying to portray an honest picture of enormous amount of stories and inspirations we have in our life.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

It comes naturally to all of us to do music , we are at our best and it gives us the fundamental platform to connect with ourselves.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

Each and every release we do is different in every way, We are trying to be as transparent to the idea of the song as we can. We are trying to present the composition in its utmost honesty.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

The biggest challenge is being heard in so much digital noise. And since we are not so much social media driven , its even tougher. But at the same time technology helps you to reach to a potential audience immediately , wherever in the world they might be.

What was the last song you listened to?

Souvenance by Anour brahem

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Vinyl

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Apple music

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Instagram
