Taylor Alexander-Good Old Fashioned Pain

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Nashville’s Taylor Alexander about his new album Good Old Fashioned Pain, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m originally from the greater Atlanta, GA area. I think of my music generally as country, there’s a lot of folk and rock influences as well but I think most folks hear country when they hear my music.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I started writing songs when I was about 11, and just continued to pursue the craft, I found it cathartic and intriguing then, and still do.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

This is my first full legnth album, it feels great to finally have a fully realized album for people to hear.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

It’s definitely harder now to get people’s attention, whether that be booking agents, managers, or listeners, there’s a near constant stream of new releases and it’s hard to convince people to listen to yours. It can be difficult as an independent artist to wear all the hats you have to wear now, booking, social media marketing, or what have you, luckily technology does make that easier, it’s probably easier now than ever to find the people your music resonates with.

What was the last song you listened to?

I just had Uncomfortably Numb off the new American Football album on.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

It depends, MP3 is super convenient sometimes but I do like putting on vinyl when I really want to dive into an album.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I use Apple Music the most since I have an iPhone, it’s cool having that much music at your fingertips.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

My website iamtayloralexander.com links to all my social media accounts, I probably check Instagram the most so find me there!

Anything else before we sign off?

Thanks for taking the time, good to talk to you!
