Interview with The Hilder – Lost On You

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 27, 2021 10:52 am Tagged With: indie rock, pop rock, Rock, United Kingdom

The Hilder

The Hilder are an indie rock band from Bridlington, East Yorkshire composed of Matty Jackman, Sam Parsons, Danny Jackman and Ryan Downey.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with the band about their debut release, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create?

We are from Bridlington, a small seaside town in Yorkshire, UK and we create Indie Rock/Pop music.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

We are writing songs that we enjoy ourselves and which we would choose to listen to personally. We feel that if we like what we are writing and listening to then hopefully other people will too.

We love every aspect of music and our motivation comes from the whole process of writing/creating music from first playing our songs live to recording music and releasing our songs out in to the world for others to listen to.

How is this new release different to previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

This is our debut single but we have all been in previous bands before The Hilder but when we all came together and brought our experience from previous bands it brought something different out in us all and in our writing. We have all used our experiences to create a new and interesting sound which hasn’t been accomplished in our local area with other bands. In our songs we are specifically trying to accomplish a short, snappy and catchy sound which will get people singing along.

Name 1 or 2 challenges you have faced as an indie band in this digital and over saturated age? And how has technology helped you?

The biggest challenge so for came when we realised that it’s not all just about writing music anymore. We realised that we have to have more of a business mind and try to understand how to get our music heard by the right audience. Getting our single accepted on to the correct playlists is a big challenge which we are hoping to overcome. Technology has massively impacted us as a band as it has allowed us to connect and release our single to the exact people that we wanted to.

What was the last song you listened to?

Dan – The Great Escape, The Lathums

Matty – This Must Be The Place, Talking Heads

Sam – Indian Summer, Stereophonics

Ryan – Pacifier, Catfish And The Bottlemen

Which do you prefer, vinyl, cds or MP3’s?

We all prefer MP3’s because they are much more accessible and allow anyone to listen to any song at any time. With us being a younger generation band we appreciate the convenience of Spotify, Apple Music etc.

Do you prefer Spotify, Apple Music or Bandcamp?

We love Spotify because of the playlists that are recommended to you through their algorithms. We also love the opportunities which Spotify provide for upcoming bands with their dedicated playlists.

Where is the best place to connect with you?

We are very accessible through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram under the username @TheHilderBand. Our debut single will also be released on all major streaming services so that you can enjoy it however you would like.

Anything before we sign off?

We would like to thank you for having us and we massively appreciate the opportunity and support!
