Interview with The PAC – Never Hold Me Down

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 12, 2021 12:28 pm Tagged With: Bay Area, California, Hip Hop, Pop, R&B, Rock, San Francisco, Soul, United States

The PAC

The PAC is a group of passionate musicians from different parts of the USA intertwined to make you groove to a live fusion of pop, rock, and soul. These young talents are united together with the common goal of making good music. The PĂC’s unique sound was born in a garage out of the San Francisco, Bay Area.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with The PAC about their music, the challenges, the technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are a 9-piece band currently living in the San Francisco, Bay Area. Our music is fused with Hip Hop, Pop, Rock, Funk and RnB.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Everyone in the band has a strong passion for music. We all come from different backgrounds and form this unity that writes and plays good music together. The motivation is knowing that we have a lot of music to share with the world that anyone can connect with.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

The first release was a remake of an Earth Wind and Fire song “Love’s Holiday”

We are blessed to be working with Verdine White and John Paris of Earth, Wind and Fire. They mentored us through the whole process and still do to this day. Also, all would not have been possible without our Manager Eddie Mininfield who has played with Prince, Sheila E, Beyonce, and many others.

This release is one of our originals that we decided would be the next single to drop. N.H.M.D speaks to what is happening today. There is so much going on that whatever your situation is you must rise above and Never Hold Me Down is something we hope you all enjoy.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

Some of the challenges we face, as Indie Musicians, is doing our promotion and marketing of the band. With today’s over saturation, you really got to dig in and learn how it all works. But once we started plugging it in, technology and social media became a powerful tool to get our music out. It’s an amazing experience when you get comments and love from different countries around the world.

What was the last song you listened to?

That is a hard question, since everyone in the band listens to all sorts of music. We will say the new track “Skate” from silk Sonic is dope!

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

All! We all grew up listening to music in all forms. Whether it was on vinyl, cd, or mp3.

  1. How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Most in the band use Spotify and Apple music. There are many ways people get access to music which is great because it gives the artist a bigger platform to showcase their work. We found that different audiences in different parts of the world use platforms that we never even heard about in the United States. It’s dope to tune in and see what’s trending on those platforms too.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
