Interview with Adam Friedman – Lemonade

by C Bret Campbell August 11, 2016 5:18 pm

Adam Friedman is a pop songwriter/producer who has an impressive resume of writing and producing music with Mike Posner, Maty Noyes, and Shep Goodman. Originally from Arizona and now based in LA, Adam has expanded his talents by venturing further into the music world and is excited to be releasing his very own debut EP out this fall. Following his first single “Pretty Things” he not only generated tremendous buzz with over 1.5 million streams, but also was selected to debut his second track, “Lemonade” on the Today Show.

With a budget of $0, Adam called six of his friends and asked them if they wanted to do a 24 hour trip around California. The journey took them from Malibu to Big Sur where Adam skated on Bigsby Bridge, through a tunnel at Patkins Curve and other spots along the Pacific Coast Highway. The shoot then moved inland towards the Mohave Desert, past some wineries, through the oil fields, and after shooting sunset at Vasquez Rocks, finished up back in Malibu.  The main goal was to capture the authenticity and beauty of the serene coasts of California fittingly while Adam sings his soothing tune.

MTM: Let’s get to know you, the artist and your music a little better. What attracted you to genre(s) or style(s) you practice?
Adam:  Growing up I listed to EVERYTHING so I’ve been influenced by a lot of stuff. As I’ve been honing my style in over the past few years I tend to make my music about the words and centered around my voice.
MTM:  How long have you been making music? Have you been performing or sharing it with the public all that time?
Adam:  I’ve been making music for 16 years. I’ve performed it on and off over those 16 years but until recently (the past 2 years) I’ve been really focusing on performance.
MTM:  Who or what influences your writing and performance?
Adam:  LIFE. Experiences. Working with writers/producers/performers that are better than me.
MTM:  It seems all creative people go through rough patches or writer’s block of some sort. What motivates you to keep going?
Adam:  Healthy food, meditation, the universe, exercise.
MTM:  What was the last song you listened to?
Adam:  A new song of mine. Right now the title is Gravity.
MTM:  Do you prefer a certain medium for listening – vinyl, CDs, mp3, reel-to-reel, Pono,(lol sort of)?
Adam:  My phone and my headphones and vinyls on my record player.
MTM:  If you had to choose one place to host your music, would you prefer Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, or … ?
Adam:  Spotify
MTM:  Do you ever feel as if your tunes are lost in a sea of music? What are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract new listeners?
Adam:  No. I make what I want to hear. My biggest obstacle is not playing enough shows/in front of more people. I guess that’s every artists obstacle though.
MTM:  Are you playing on live stages, clubs, bars, the local town picnic, festivals?
 Live Stages, Clubs
MTM:  Do you ever stream your performances over the net? Where can music lovers see you perform?
YouTube or go to my website adamfriedmanmusic.com where my upcoming shows are posted!
MTM:  Where is the best place to connect with you online and/or discover more of your music?
 Spotify, Youtube, Instagram, Facebook
MTM:  Can you share an anecdote or tale of woe or inspiration like a story about an out-of-touch club manager, your favorite fan interaction, broken busses, or you know… just some experience in your musical journey you’ll never forget?
MTM:  I’ll never forget when I sold my first song. I wasn’t trying nor expecting it to happen. It just happened. And after about 13 years of recording my own music, it was totally worth it. Through all the trial and tribulations we encounter along the way. The lesson here is: get your music out there! 1.Keep practicing, 2. Pursue quality 3. Releasing content!
