Interview with Aquaducks

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 20, 2013 6:44 am Tagged With: Funk, Nashville, Rock, United States

We missed the opportunity to grab an interview with The Aquaducks before MusicTree Festival.

But, in the words of some person from long ago, “better late than never”.

And also, we have a special treat! The Aquaducks recorded their performance and have uploaded it for our listening pleasure.

Let everyone know who you are, where you are from and what style of music you play.

We are The Aquaducks, a funk rock band coming out of Nashville, TN.

What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?

Cliff jumping at Percy Priest, catching as many local shows as we can and some of us are currently very involved in Malcolm in the Middle on Netflix.

What was the last song you listened to?

There are a lot of bands that we have been listening to recently… Roots of a Rebellion, Space Capone, Evolfo Doofeht, Endangered Speeches, Snarky Puppy and Lettuce are some of our current favorites.

What did you listen to when you were younger? What do you listen to now? Have your tastes changed?

All of us grew up listening to different yet similar types in music and that comes out in our music. I wouldn’t say our tastes have changed but evolved. We stay close to the foundations we grew up with while always looking to keep fresh.

Was there an “ah-ha” moment in your life when you knew music would be the path you were going to walk?

We all came to Belmont to pursue a career in music so we have all had those moments in the past. We got started as a group playing house parties as an unnamed collective of friends just having a good time and that led to forming The Aquaducks. Our “ah-ha” moment as band came early when we won the Battle of the Belmont Bands in our first ever public show.

How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?

I was randomly searching craigslist for summer gigs and ran across Music Tree. We really wanted to perform in Manchester to get our name out there for Bonnaroo so Music Tree was a perfect fit.

How do you feel about being a part of Music Tree Festival?

We had a great time at Music Tree. The people were great and loved the opportunity to perform in Manchester.

Do you have plans for Bonnaroo?

Some of us went to Bonnaroo and some didn’t. We hope to all be going to Bonnaroo next year but with the artist wristbands.

Do you have an album available? Where can we get it? Where can people connect with you online?

We have three singles released right now on soundcloud and also released a live recording of our set at Music Tree.

We just broke 1,000 likes on Facebook so that was a big deal for us. We love our fans so give us a like and keep up with everything we are doing. www.Facebook.com/TheAquaducks

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
