New Album Teaser

How long have you been playing?

About 10 years – I started playing guitar when I was 13 – started a band in high school moved to Minneapolis when I was 17 to start playing and touring professionally. I did that for a couple years and then started focusing more on songwriting which led me to Nashville.

What do you do for fun? You know…besides music?

I enjoy listening to music (ha) I like to clean my house – ride bikes – drink – read – write – drink coffee – bartend but just so I don’t seem too boring I spend most of my time playing and writing music.

How’s the music scene in your home town?

Terrible – When I was in High School there was a great all- ages venue called The Journey where popular national bands would play every weekend and the guy that did the booking (Tom Klein) would always put local bands on the bill even for the biggest acts. So my bands in high school would play shows to 200+ kids on a good night. Unfortunately that eventually fell apart and now the music scene is almost non-existant. Even Smart Studios ( nirvana smashing pumpkins everclear ) shut down.

What’s on your personal playlist this week?

The Whigs – Torche – Airborne Toxic Event – Black Keys – Mumford and Sons – Stones (always) Stone Temple Pilots

Can you pin-point the moment you knew you wanted to be a performing musician?

I was very young and taking piano lessons at the time and while I as at the local music store I saw a teenager playing acoustic guitar in the guitar room. I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen.

What are your goals? How far would you like to go? What is the next big hurdle?

I want to go as far as I possibly can. I want to record records that people all over the world want to buy – I want to play shows for thousands of people – I want to be happy knowing that I did what so many people told me was impossible. I want to have the freedom to spend any amount of time and money making the music that is most true to me.

Describe one of your most memorable music moments.

In 2008 my band from Minneapolis ‘Apparently Nothing’ recorded in Portland with Everclear lead singer Art Alexakis.

What song makes you dance when you’re cleaning house?

“I wanna be your lover – Prince or Any good rock n roll band or Michael Jackson”

Tell us about your musical influences.

From a songwriting perspective my biggest influences are Modest Mouse – Ryan Adams – Smashing Pumpkins – ACDC. I was also inspired by Metallica – RATM – Soundgarden – Stone Temple Pilots – Pearl Jam and Led Zeppelin

How did you hear about Music Tree Fest?

A friend told me about it

How do you feel about being a part of the Music Tree Festival?

Very excited to be on the roster cannot wait to play!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
