by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 24, 2013 7:20 am Tagged With: Europe, France

Scratch Master Tape 2012 from DJ SupaphonikLet’s break the ice. Let us know who you are, where you are from, and when did you fall in love with Skratching?

hello ! my nickname is supaphonik, i’m from france ( paris ), and i fell in love with scratching in 1989

What is the Skratch scene like in Paris?

quiet huge, if you can connect on the social hub or forum like beat4battle, you can easily find scratchers in your area, and the level is pretty high !

Have you ever been to this side of the ocean? Can you compare/contrast the two scenes (if yes)?

no, never, i wish i can go visit the octagon and the QSU one day

Who or what are your influences? When did you first hear or see someone scratching?

my biggest influence is qbert, but i’ve to give a big shout out to crazy b and dj mouss who were the very first scratchers i could see live. and the very first time i heared scratching was in the song call “mais vous etes fou?” from BENNY B, with dj daddy k in 1989, i was 8 years old !

What’s one thing you can tell someone about Skratching that you wish you knew when you first started?

don’t expect to be famous with scratching, just do it because you love it, give people love, they will send it back to you !

What equipment do you use? Do you have a favorite piece of gear?

I use vestax pdxTurntable, numark pro sm1 with a proxfade, also got a qfo, mixvibes cross for dvs, m-audio trigger finger, and acid pro software

my favorite piece of gear is the QFO it’s just so fun !

What was the last song you listened to?

david hudson – yap yap from yigiyigi,(didgeridoo solo)

Do you have a favorite record you love to use for Skratching?

any scratch record that has the sound aahh !!! lol !!! best of superseal, superseal 4D, scratch science records aswell, and old battle break that has sounds you won’t find on new records

What style(s) of music do you enjoy spinning or listening to?

rare groove, bboy break, drum n bass, dubstep, hiphop 90’s for spinning, and i like to listen any kind of music from jazz to reggae to salsa to experimental stuff …

Do you have any skratch tapes or other work we can check out? Where can we get it?

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
