Interview with Donna Frost

by C Bret Campbell May 11, 2012 2:59 am

Donna Frost

Jedi at it again, breaking the story before it comes out!  Donna Frost, from Nashville will be Playing the Musictree Festival in Manchester, TN,  on Friday June 1, 2012 at The Brew . We got our paws on a cool interview with Donna, here. Enjoy…

Hometown: Nashville

Genre: Americana/Rock

How long have you been playing?

I have been playing since I was 9 years old. I have played in many bands through the years and began pursuing a solo career in 1998. To date, I have three CD’s of original music that I have released…”Pure and Simple” (1998), “Feels Like Home” (2001) and my current CD, “Girls Like Us”, 2009. Since 1993, I have been performing across the country and have played in the UK and Caribbean. This is what I do full time. Most touring shows I play solo acoustic. Other times I have my band with me.

How did you get together?

The musicians who play with me on my solo shows and I are also in a rock band called The BUNNIEs. We were on the first wave of the new wave back in the early 1980’s and performed around Nashville. We reunited in 2007 and play shows in Nashville & Chicago. We celebrate our 30th anniversary with a show at the Exit/In in Nashville on June 30!

Members and Instruments:

Donna Frost – lead vocals & rhythm guitarist, Jeffrey Grant Allen – lead guitar, Tony Frost – drums, Brian O’Connor – bass guitar

How do you feel about being a part of the Music Tree Festival?

I am thrilled to be a part of this event! It’s always exciting to be involved with something new. I wish you all the very best with this and hope it continues to grow.

What do you do for fun? You know, besides music…

What else is there???

How’s the music scene in your home town?

I live in Nashville, so I don’t need to explain that one. It is Music City USA.

What’s on your personal playlist this week?

“Legend” Bob Marley & the Wailers! Just saw the Bob Marley documentary last night, excellent film! Also, “Wave” by Patti Smith, “Under the Covers 2” by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs, “Romancing” by Devin…plus many more. I am on the road a LOT so I carry a lot of CD’s with me all the time to play in the car.

What are your goals as a musician?

To continue growing as a songwriter and performer. I’m always trying to better myself and kick things up to the next level with each new project. I have many new songs written, would like to get a new CD out before the year is done. I would love to have my songs in movies and/or TV shows and am working on that now. Would love to go to Europe and tour. I’d love to play in the 15 states I haven’t performed in yet.

What song makes you dance when you’re cleaning house?

I’m always dancing

Tell us about some of your musical influences.

The Beatles, the Stones, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Chrissie Hynde, Lucinda Williams, Gram Parsons….too many to name.

Where would you choose to build a vacation home?

St. Lucia!
