Interview with GOODWIN

In this interview, we chat with GOODWIN about his newest project, how he got into this style of music, and more.

Full Q&A, links, and streams below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

EDM wasn’t always a genre I enjoyed until a friend of mine showed me some of deadmau5’s music.

That gave me that initial spark to listen to more of that genre. Then when Avicii came out with “Levels” I was hooked. I just loved the energy behind his track and how happy and uplifting it seemed to sound. That was also what helped me push my style and songwriting.

What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?

My parents signed me up for piano lessons when I was a kid. I quickly fell in love with playing piano and music in general. I even started learning guitar later on. Then when I started high-school another friend of mine asked if I would be interested in joining his band as the guitarist. The band didn’t end up going anywhere due to the lack of interest from the drummer and other guitarist who decided they both didn’t want to continue with music. That was probably my biggest push to releasing music to the public, since my friend and I both put so much effort inside the band but none of the stuff we worked on or wrote was going to be heard.

Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?

All sorts of artists spark that boost of creativity. My taste in music definitely has changed when I started with music there were only a few genres I enjoyed, but as I got older and was introduced to more new music. I began to appreciate and enjoy more genres and styles.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

I’m aiming to create music that gives you that uplifting and energetic vibe. The kind of songs that just make you feel good.

What was the last song you listened to?

Deadmau5 – I Remember

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I prefer audio files now don’t get me wrong I love seeing and listening to my collection of CDs but the convenience of audio files just can’t be beat for me.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Spotify would have to be my favourite the ability to share playlists with friends easily puts it above the rest for me.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?

One of the biggest challenges for me is the marketing and social media aspect. I’m in a constant battle of trying to promote myself to more and more listeners against even more and more artists.

Instead of spending that time composing more music.

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?

Soundcloud is currently the best place to connect with me and also find more of my music.

Anything else you’d like to add before signing off?

There are going to bumps in the road but you have only truly failed when you have quit.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
