Best of Middle Tennessee Hip at Main Street Live

Interview

James Payne

You were chosen for MPS Management’s best of Mid-TN Hip Hop show…how do you feel?

I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to share my artistry with others….

Are you originally from this area [Middle Tennessee]?

No, I’m from Memphis, TN. Frayser aka the bay area to be exact. Now I reside in South East Memphis. I went to MTSU though and that’s how I got connected with the area’s who’s who…

How long have you been making music? What inspires you?

I been making music since I was 13. My family and friends inspire me and they are the main reason I’m still doing this.

What are your thoughts on the local urban music scene? Where do you see room for improvement?

I think Tennessee as a whole is on the upswing musically. I love what I’m seeing and hearing and the young artists force me to keep my game tight…I do think more artist need to focus on expanding their territories. It seems like the artist are content with being local or underground and collectively we need to collaborate with each other and with different areas to expand our reach.

How big of a role is the internet playing in promoting and marketing your music online?

I use social networking to try to connect with people and keep my music followers updated on what’s what with me. I plan to rely heavy on the internet going forward being it has the largest reach potential vs. lowest cost. It will be the keystone of my music push and when my newest material is ready it will be accessible to my fans 24/7.

Do you have mixtapes or an album available? Where can we get it?

I Will Rap 4 Food is up 1st. Be looking for it because we are finishing it up now. Shortly after will be 1428. This is one that I have been looking forward to releasing for a minute now. But not to get ahead of myself. They will be on Itunes and live mixtapes…Just Google me. James Payne The Lethal Son.

What should people expect from you at Main Street Live on the 18th?

A good show from a bunch of up and coming artist. I’m excited for the opportunity…

Any last words or shout outs?

Yeah….Shout out to MPS MGMT team…Hot Rod on the track, Klassix Jones, M.D. with no degree, Memphis, TN and Cashville,TN, T Money and the Lethal World Fam, 30 Round Money, Stilt Chamberlain, the Kloud Krowd, Classic Will, and anybody that rock with me, I rock with you…..
