Interview with Madelyn Victoria

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman January 15, 2016 1:46 pm Tagged With: Country, singer, songwriter, Texas, United States

Madelyn Victoria

If you missed our previous Madelyn Victoria feature, find that here. We were able to get a few minutes of Madelyn’s time for this brief interview.

The video for Madelyn’s single “He Only Loves Me On The Dance Floor” is now playing.

Music and performance has been a major part of your life since a young age… What are one or two of your favorite musical memories?

There are so many awesome musical memories I want to share but that would take days! Haha… but there are two moments that really stand out for me.

I competed in the FFA Talent Competition my junior year of High School & won at my chapter then went on to win at our Area division. I sang “Anyway” by Martina McBride and I got a standing ovation for the first time ever. It was so meaningful to me because it came from my own peers and students from other schools my age. I was so overwhelmed and couldn’t stop crying, in a happy way :). Even thinking about it now brings a tear to my eye!

My second favorite memory was opening for the Jonas Brothers because it was the first time I had ever performed at a concert setting and to a huge awesome crowd. I knew right then and there that I’d be doing this for the rest of my life.

Who or what are your biggest influences? What keeps you motivated to puruse music for the longhaul?

Music is in my blood. My uncles and cousins on my mom’s side are all so extremely talented. I grew up listening to them play and sing around bonfires, family get togethers, etc. but none have never made a career out of it. So I do what I do for them- they are my biggest inspiration. I want to make them so proud and can’t wait for the day where I can just fly them out to my studio and we can make music all day- that certainly is the dream for me.

When times get tough I keep them all in my mind and keep on keeping on. George Strait is also a huge inspiration to me; I hope I can be as impactful on the Country music industry as he is. His songs take me back to my childhood years riding around town with my dad and remind me of all the good memories of growing up. I also love Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Patsy Cline, and the late Tejano singer Selena.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song I listened to was “Ghost Town” by Sam Outlaw. He is an AMAZING artist from Cali… Look him up, y’all!

You’ve opened for some big names in country music; which of those shows was your favorite?

My favorite show as an opening act has to be a tie between the Zac Brown Band and the Charlie Daniels Band. Zac Brown put on one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen and to be able to sing to a sold out crowd and all the exposure I got was awesome. Charlie Daniels is a legend, so to be able to have a show with him under my belt is just so surreal.

Are there any upcoming shows or tours? What do you have planned for 2016?

I am excited for an upcoming show with Aaron Watson at a rodeo here in south Texas. I also have a radio tour coming up and planning some cool things in Nashville during CMA Fest. I have so much material ready to record so I also hope to record my first full length album this summer.

Where can listeners connect with you online? Support your music?

Everyone can visit my website madelynvictoriamusic.com, look me up on Facebook as “Madelyn Victoria” and find me on Twitter and Instagram! & I would appreciate a download of my EP on iTunes y’all 🙂 thanks so much!

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?

Thank you so much to God, my family, friends, fans, MTS Management, and Star 1 Records for all your support. & a word to other aspiring artists like myself-  If this is what you love, put you’re all in it. Believe in yourself, never give up, and you will see success. It takes time… but I never thought I’d be here at this point in my career years ago, and I have faith that years from now I’ll be looking back and saying the same thing.. If I can do it, anyone can.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
