Interview with Moses Mikheyev – Fernanda, It’s All Right

by Leslie Sherman March 8, 2023 1:56 pm Tagged With: ballad, Folk, indie, singer, songwriter, United States

Fernanda, It's All Right

Moses Mikheyev is an alternative rock, pop, and folk artist based out of Los Angeles, California. His unique genre defying music has been described as “atmospheric” (Earmilk), “truly an artist of his own” (Vents Magazine) with “impeccable abilities as both a songwriter and a performer” (Music Crowns).

His new single, “Fernanda, It’s All Right” comes from his upcoming debut album I Only Have a Hundred Years to Love You, in tandem with the release of his book, “This Time Next Summer,” that inspired the album.

“Fernanda, It’s All Right” was written after a particularly tough breakup. Moses used writing music and poetry about it to be healing cathartic. It’s a beautifully crafted and heartfelt indie folk ballad that captures the bittersweet essence of lost love and the hope that can be found in moving forward.

In this interview spotlight, we chat about favorite songs, dream collabs, musical memories and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

What can you share with readers about your new project?

It’s a folk pop break-up song with orchestral and cinematic elements.

How does this project compare with your other projects you had in the past?

I’ve done other piano-driven ballads in the past, songs like “I Keep Seeing You.” This time I worked with a pianist, David Gavrishov, who loves Ludovico Einaudi and Hans Zimmer as much as I do. So we collaborated. He also wrote the minimalist piano solo for the bridge section.

What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?

I think the overall organic and analog cinematic vibe is what I’m most proud of.

The goal was: write a good song. That’s always my goal with every project. One good song at a time.

What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?

I’ve also written songs in my head. Even when I’m not recording a record, I’m always writing songs. It’s second nature to me at this point. I don’t think I could ever get to a point where I’m not writing songs.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.

That’s tough as there are so many great artists out there. Just from the female ones alone, I’d love to work with Taylor Swift. But I’m also obsessed with the Indonesian pop star, NIKI. Realistically, it’d probably be NIKI. Swift will likely remain out of my league for the foreseeable future.

What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?

I had ZAANO’s “I Do What I Want” on repeat last night. It’s such an underrated song. And I’m also defensive about it because Brandon Zano is an awesome musician who happens to be my producer!

You can listen to it here: https://open.spotify.com/track/01GrYhoQr5toQ48jTNoEuo?si=84de3a096a904efe

My favorite bands/musicians are all over the place. Just off the top of my head, I’d go with: Anberlin, Blue October, Michael Jackson, Queen, Journey, Lifehouse, Taylor Swift, Switchfoot, Architects, Eminem, Kevin Gates, Future of Forestry. That’s just the start.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

I hate—absolutely hate—social media. It’s a disease. I avoid it like the plague. Having said that, I’m only ever on Instagram these days. I use it on occasion.

I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?

I’ve got a few songs coming out this summer. The next one is an upbeat rock pop party song called “Whatever You Want (Keeping the Neighbors Awake).” It comes out March 24th. I’m excited about that one!
