Interview with Revelation Music – I Am Home

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 16, 2018 3:30 pm Tagged With: indie rock, Philippines, singer, songwriter

Revelation Music-I Am Home

In this interview spotlight, we chat with Revelation Music about motivations, challenges, the latest project and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

We recently featured Revelation Music. Find that article here.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Were from the Philippines and we like music that has a simple but catchy melody. I guess because of my age (as composer) my influence is more on the 80s new wave with synthesizers and all. My daughter who sung this though is more into rock. So our style together has become a mix of new wave and rock.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Music has great influence on people. As musicians and writers we can help build or destroy people, values, cultures or generation. As a God given talent, i believe my works should bless others. So i keep my lyrics not only wholesome but inspiring. Always positive and true.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

I had a hit before entitled “pagsubok” in English that means trials. It became a triple
Platinum hit in my country and inspired a lot of people and gave hope. I hope this song puts a smile on peoples face who are in grieving stage because they just lost someone they love. In terms of musicality, both songs are simple easy to play music.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

In a word where everything is rushed and people are so competitive, there is a temptation to just come up with music thats not from the heart. A release made simply because you have to.

Clear your thought and pray. Jesus gives us the talent and creativity. Then put your hands and mind at work. Remember leas is more. Don’t cramp it all in one song.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
