Interview with XOHA – Heartless

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 2, 2022 8:47 pm Tagged With: California, dance, electro-pop, Los Angeles, Pop, singer, songwriter, United States

Xoha-Heartless

XOHA is a profound young woman of inner and outer strength, academic excellence, societal awareness, and blood that’s laced with the sweet melodies of rich musicology. Her music has been featured by Mundane Magazine, Girl.com, Vanyaland, and more.

XOHA recently released an empowering song for the summer titled “Heartless“. The powerful track is inspiring and relatable for those who have been in a toxic relationship or friendship and are looking forward to a fresh start. “Heartless” shines a spotlight on XOHA’s sleek voice with beautiful harmonies and an uplifting pop beat.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with XOHA about the latest release, musical memories, motivations and more.

What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest single, “Heartless”?

If you like The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, and other similar artists, you’re going to love my new single “Heartless.” By recycling the retro synth sound from the 80’s and pairing it with passionate and driven lyrics for you to blast on repeat, this is definitely the perfect song for your party-filled summer nights.

How does this single compare with your other releases? Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?

This single undoubtedly is more of a dance tune, similar to my last release, “TOO LATE.” With a dark and ambitious twist found in the lyrics, this song is the revenge anthem. I’ve always been drawn to retro-futuristic themes in music, so that was the main influence in “Heartless.”

What motivates you to create music?

Writing and creating music have and will forever be my outlet. Over the years, it’s made me realize that there are thousands of other people that are feeling what I’m feeling at any given time. So, why not create art that can touch so many people at once?

What’s one of your first or most powerful music memories? Did that play any role in driving you to create?

During quarantine, I remember going in for a studio session to record my first single ever, “Outsider.” At that moment, I didn’t care how much sanitizer I had to slather all over, or the constant re-application of my mask. At that moment, I was making music, and making my first ever dream a true reality.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?

At some point, it would be a dream to have someone rap on my songs. I love Doja Cat’s flow, as well as Wiz Khalifa’s. On the music production and lyrics side of it, it would be so cool to collaborate with Chase Shakur, Steve Lacy, or even The Weeknd.

What was the last song you listened to? And who is one of your favorite all-time bands/artists?

The last song I listened to was “Tomorrow” by Kali Uchis, surely a fav! I listen to so many genres of music, and I’m always seeking out new up-and-coming artists. Some of my favorite, more established artists include Frank Ocean, Steve Lacy, Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Sza, The Weeknd, Summer Walker, Tems, and more. I’m also into more subtle artists such as Faye Webster, Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski, Mac Demarco, The Internet, and Tame Impala. Finally, my favorite band has got to be Men I Trust.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

If you want to explore more of my music, you can find me on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and all other streaming platforms. As far as keeping up with my daily life and exciting posts, I’m very active on Instagram, Tiktok, and Youtube. My tag is @xohamusic!

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

Please stream “Heartless,” and be sure to check out my social media to stay up to date on all the fun coming to you in the near future 🙂
