In this interview spotlight, I chat with Yuphoric about the release with Meron, thoughts on collaborations, musical memories and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest project Mom’s Song?

Mom’s Song is a collab we did with our good friend MERON. The song is a call to anyone who listens to be brave enough to follow their passion and break the pattern of the social norms that society dictates.

How does this project compare with your other projects you had in the past?

Each project we start is always unique depending on the song and energy of the participants but we have a certain workflow that leads us to find the right direction. With this project, we didn’t follow our usual patterns, everything you hear on the record is what we intuitively played as soon as we picked up our instruments.

What motivates you to create music?

From a young age creating music was an integral part of our hang (friend group). As time went by it just continued to be something we love to do, so it naturally happens every time we link up.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.

We believe that to collaborate with somebody requires more than skill, it requires chemistry. Before having a session with anyone we try to hang out first and make sure that the vibe is there and that there’s some sort of click. Based purely on intuition, we believe that we would have that feeling with Anderson Paak., Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Bon Iver, James Blake and many more.

What was the last song you listened to? And who is one of your favorite all-time bands/artists?

‘Do the Astral Plane’ by Flying Lotus who is one of our favorite artists.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

You can find us on Instagram and TikTok @weareyuphoric

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
