Zoe Clark-Last One Standing

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Zoe Clark about the newest music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Listen on Spotify.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I am originally from Connecticut but I am currently based in Nashville and have lived here for almost four years. My musical style tends to fall under pop singer songwriter because I write music that relates to my listeners.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I have always been in love with singing and songwriting. I started songwriting when I was twelve years old after I heard “Teardrops on my guitar” by Taylor Swift on the radio. Even though I never experienced heartbreak at that young age, I connected to the song on such a deep level, I felt like it was written all for me – which is the goal that I have as a songwriter. All of my songs are about my experiences and my truths in order to connect to my audience. I want my listeners to feel like I wrote my songs just for them and can help them through their lives.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

“Last One Standing” is my favorite song that I have written to date. My Last EP “Lovers Mark,” was based off of love, heartbreak, heartache, and dating in my twenties because love was a big aspect of my life at that time. “Last One Standing” is the complete 180 from my EP. This song focuses on loving yourself outside of a relationship and being unique and different.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

I think that because so many musicians are releasing music and anyone and everyone can release music to all platforms, it can be very hard for someone’s music to be heard. I love social media, because I think that is an incredible way to connect with fans and be discovered by more people. Tik Tok has been an incredible platform for my last single “Last One Standing” and me because it was discovered by 3.3 million people and keeps growing and I have been able to create a fan base from it.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song I listened to was “Bitter” by Fletcher. A true bop.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I love love love the idea of Vinyl records and I want a Vinyl player so badly! I listen to music via streaming platforms currently, but I love CD’s and Vinyl.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I love all DSP’s but I tend to use Spotify and Apple Music the most. I grew up buying all my music via ITunes and my dad still gives me apple music gift cards for Christmas and birthdays haha.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

I am on all social media platforms under zoeclarkofficial and zoeclarkmusic on Tik Tok! I am most active on my instagram: Zoeclarkofficial as well. I love love connecting with my fans on those platforms and getting to know everyone!

Anything else before we sign off?

I hope my music can connect to you and that we can be friends.
