Washington, DC’s Lakaff has been steadily carving out a lane he calls “heart music” – a quirky, genre-bending blend of rock, EDM, house and hip-hop delivered in vivid Dolby Atmos sound.
Lakaff is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer and he has been building a catalog of anecdotal yet broadly resonant tracks since 2023, taking inspiration from artists as diverse as Oasis, Disclosure, Shania Twain, Prodigy, Kasabian and 50 Cent.
His single “Jambles” might be his most seamless synthesis yet.
On “Jambles,” Lakaff channels the wiry guitar energy of early Strokes records while borrowing the percussive instincts of hip-hop artists like Future.
But instead of relying on a drum machine for the trap-meets-guitar vibe, he builds the groove around live, kit-oriented sounds, which gives “Jambles” a punchy, human feel beneath its chopped hi-hats and pulsing bassline.
Lyrically, “Jambles” captures Lakaff’s daily-life observations and passion for music. The words came together gradually, with nods to Oasis, “Sk8er Boi” and other personal touchstones stitched into a collage of lines he’d been carrying in his head. It very much reads like a diary entry , marrying his influences with his own playful soulful sensibility.
2025 has been a breakout year for Lakaff. After releasing his third single since 2023, “may.Be” (featuring Grammy-winning saxophonist Johnny Butler and Atmos mastering by Emmy-winner Cheryl Ottenritter), Lakaff cemented his reputation as an artist who can think big without losing intimacy. His journey began in elementary school on the French horn, moved through euphonium, rock bands and bass guitar practice sessions with Aerosmith albums, and eventually evolved into songwriting, singing and producing. Lakaff is an artist who is not afraid to think big.
“Jambles” is another step forward, a vivid statement of intent from an artist who’s finding beauty at the crossroads of genres and inviting listeners to feel it with him.
