Jennifer Harper Debuts Bold New Single “Mary Magdalene”

by Leslie Sherman August 16, 2023 9:42 am Tagged With: singer, songwriter

“Mary Magdalene” is a beautiful and enchanting song that celebrates the complexities of love and womanhood with grace and sincerity. Jennifer Harper’s delicate vocals, accompanied by a mesmerizing melody, create an ethereal atmosphere that transports listeners to an emotional landscape. The song’s exploration of love is not confined to romantic notions but also delves into the profound bond between women, highlighting the strength and resilience that arises from sisterhood. Through “Mary Magdalene,” the Washington D.C native captures the essence of femininity and the power of love, presenting a heartfelt ode to womanhood.

The lyrics of “Mary Magdalene” paint a vivid picture of a woman’s multifaceted nature. After feeling inspired by a connection she felt to the ancient figure, Jennifer Harper states, “It felt like a call to connect with this divine feminine energy. Mary saying to all of us – I want you to find this power within: “Know who I am”. Don’t hide your power anymore: ‘say my name.’”  Jennifer was inspired by the power within the grace that is femininity and inspires all listeners to appreciate it in the same way she does.

At the start of Jennifer Harper’s journey, she studied classical piano and later taught herself to play songs she heard on Simon & Garfunkel, CSNY, and Joni Mitchell records that her older sisters owned. As a teen, she was drawn into alternative-music venues and reggae clubs. Hearing music at political rallies made the deepest impression on the artist. “I saw how music was motivating change,” Harper said. And she wanted in. Harper’s piece, “Mary Magdalene”, does exactly this by enforcing the power of women and inspiring women to act out of love for themselves.

The song’s arrangement complements its theme impeccably. Soft, melodic instrumentation, including gentle acoustic guitar and subtle strings, enhances the emotional impact of the artist’s vocals. The carefully crafted musical backdrop creates a sense of intimacy, as if the artist is whispering her heartfelt confessions directly to the listener’s soul. The song’s dynamics ebb and flow, mirroring the ebb and flow of emotions in love and life, making “Mary Magdalene” a moving and immersive musical experience.

In conclusion, “Mary Magdalene” is a breathtaking ode to love and womanhood that radiates beauty and depth. The artist’s soulful vocals and thoughtful lyrics envelop the listener in a tapestry of emotions, drawing them into the heart of the song’s narrative. With its celebration of love in all its forms and its reverence for the strength of women, “Mary Magdalene” becomes not just a song but an anthem, echoing the power of love and the resilience of the feminine spirit. This beautiful composition leaves an indelible mark, reminding us of the profound connection that binds us all together.
