Interview with Jerome Bell – Burn Easy

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 8, 2017 4:39 pm Tagged With: Pop, R&B, singer, songwriter, Soul, Texas, United States

Jerome Bell

Pop, R&B renegade, Jerome Bell brings summer vibes early with his new track, “Burn Easy”. Born and raised in Texas, Jerome Bell uses his southern roots to bring a bold, new soulful sound to contemporary pop. Jerome is known for his captivating live energy as well, bringing a smooth, chill confidence to his performances.

Jerome’s latest track, “Burn Easy” puts the spotlight on his cool bravado. The song fuses Caribbean-inspired beats and guitar hooks to drop listeners onto an ocean-front dance floor, straight out of a summertime paradise. Co-written by Jerome, Josh Tobias and GC Castillo (Space 9) and produced by GC Castillo, “Burn Easy” is a soul infused reggae-inspired song with plenty of crossover pop and song-of-the-summer potential.

In this interview spotlight, we chat with Jerome about influences, the new project, surviving in a digital world and much more.

Full Q&A along with links and streams below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m from Lubbock, Texas. I like to create music that is catchy but still strong lyrically which is why I consider myself a Pop/Soul singer-songwriter.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

Michael Jackson and Prince were some of my biggest music influences from the time I was 2 or 3 years old. I knew that I wanted to be a performer from that moment.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

“Burn Easy” is completely different from anything I’ve done in the past. It’s a reggae inspired song. I absolutely LOVE reggae music so I was extremely happy with how the record came out. It wasn’t really planned that I would specifically record a Caribbean style song which makes it even better.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

I used to feel a bit discouraged with the transition of the digital age since I own HUNDREDS of cd’s haha! I now realize that as a successful artist you make your money by doing shows, which is the best part about making new music. Getting to perform it for the first time is a great adrenaline rush.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

You can find me everywhere by my tag @jeromebellsings 🙂

Anything else before we sign off?

2017 is looking very promising! Stay tuned! Thank you so much!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness.
