Jonathan Ferguson Finds Its Sweeter After Difficulties

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 1, 2013 2:39 am Tagged With: Folk, singer, songwriter

Jonathan Ferguson Jonathan Ferguson is a folk-rock singer, songwriter, and excellent storyteller.

In our recent interview, we spoke with him about the music and arts scene in Calgary, Canada, his influences, and his refreshing playing style.

Sweeter After Difficulties is a beautiful album.

Jonathan plays his guitar as much for percussion as he does for laying down soul-grabbing melodies. All of this is painted against a very chill and vibrant soundscape.

From the opening track Ballerina all the way to the closing Fireworks, Mr. Ferguson takes us on a journey through the people, places, and emotions that define each of his stories.

I am a huge fan of James Taylor and this is the first time I believe I have ever listened to another artist and felt like I was spinning a Taylor record.

Sweeter After Difficulties will remind you how simple can be better when it comes to music creation.

Powerful stories intertwined with Ferguson’s ability to express the human heart through his fingertips, leaves us with a debut album far above par with the competition.

I would not be surprised if you heard some of these songs in movies or television shows in the future.

If you are the in the Calgary (Canada) area, you can catch Jonathan live. He hopes to extend his reach by hitting the road soon.

Sweeter After Difficulties is available from Jonathan’s website.

You can connect with him on Facebook or Twitter.
