Interview with Laura Comfort – Little Wing

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 17, 2016 6:00 am Tagged With: London, Rock, United Kingdom

The US born and London based singer / songwriter Laura Comfort prepares for a busy summer of festivals and releases her brand new single, a countryrock reworking of the classic rock track by Jimi Hendrix and produced by acclaimed producer Gig Piscetti (Goldfrapp, Lou Reed, The Killers and Mystery Jets).

The single also features Matt Becker, lead guitarist who’s toured with some of the most legendery names in music such as, Laura Mvula, Elton John, Cher, ABC, Rumer. He’s also composed music featured in the hit TV series NCIS, Law And Order and many many more.

The release follows the success of her previous single Come Take A Ride, which reached number 18 in the UK club charts.  The second track Angelina Jolie is taken from her outstanding new album Don’t Ignore Me, collaboration with producer John Ryan (Santana, Lynard Skynard) and with over 29,000 views on her Youtube videos.

Originally from New York but now a confirmed Londoner the songstress has quite a back story from her early days of studying at Harvard College and joining her first successful pop band with students from Berkley Music School, to playing US tours and followed by many TV appearances, not to mention her previous releases and celeb musician friends.

In this interview, we chat with Laura about her influences, her newest project, and more.

Full Q&A, links, and a stream of “Little Wing” below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

It wasn’t a conscious choice to write songs in a certain style or genre I just write songs from the heart and soul that are a fusion of styles but fall into a certain genre once they’re produced.

How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?

I’ve been creating and sharing music for about 15 years now.

Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?

There are many different artists and experiences throughout life that influence my song writing. Once I developed a passion for music it’s all about continuing my creative journey.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

When I opened for Steven Tyler at Laconiafest recently I played a more organic rocknroll set which is reflected in my recent release Little Wing.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song I listened to in my car was Adele ‘Send My Love.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I still love the sound of a good vinyl but I enjoy music in all its forms.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Soundcloud is my favourite.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?

To attract listeners it’s very important to focus on all forms of social media which is challenging.

Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?

I gig and perform (and do occasional touring) throughout the UK and also around Europe and the USA.

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?

To discover more of my music, Facebook and YouTube are the best places to go.
