With “Wild’s Rising”, Lil’ Red & The Rooster don’t just release another single. They write the next chapter in blues history.
Conceived as a spiritual sequel to B.B. King’s “I’m Going Home”, the song radiates gospel warmth, rootsy authenticity and a deep personal connection to its inspiration.

From the opening moments, “Wild’s Rising” feels like you have stepped straight into the front pew of a bustling Sunday service.
Lil’ Red (Jennifer Milligan) sets the scene with a spoken word invocation, her voice carrying the poise and intimacy of a storyteller who has surely lived the truth of the song. She instantly grounds the song in the tradition of gospel infused blues while make it unmistakably Lil’ Red.
The heartbeat of this track is the work of Hammond B3 organ master Bobby Floyd whose lush chords and tasteful swells take the arrangement to a higher plane. Floyd’s playing is like a guiding light, ushering the listener through moments of reflection and jubiliation. Adding a rare touch of intergenerational magic, Floyd’s daughter Bobbi Townes joins on tambourine and claps, locking in with the rhythm section like a second heartbeat.
The choir – Quan Howell, Kara Brooks and Townes – all arranged by Floyd and layered in the studio over ten takes, wraps the song in a wall of soulful harmony. This is the kind of choral work that really fills the spirit. The harmonies are joyous and brimming with the slight imperfections that make gospel music so human and so moving.
On guitar, Pascal Fouquet serves as the bridge between worlds, pairing the warmth and phrasing of American blues with the elegance of Parisian swing. His solos and fills speak with the grace of a musician who knows that the spaces between the notes are just as important as the notes themselves.
The overall mix lets the listener really sink in to the layered textures – whether it’s the shimmer of the organ, the gentle snap of the tambourine or the rise and fall of the choir.
What makes “Wild’s Rising” truly special is how it extends its emotional and musical conversation begun by B.B. King decades ago. It honors the past without being trapped by it. And it’s an affirmation that the blues, especially when married to gospel, is still one of the most powerful vehicles we have for expressing the full spectrum of the human experience.
“Wild’s Rising” is a moment that invites you to clap along, sway in your seat, and maybe even feel a little closer to something bigger than the song itself.
