Lot Lizards are a melodic punk band from Florida. When I heard the first single of their album “The Surprise of Adulting” I knew I had to check out the whole album, and holy shit, what an album it was. As someone who grew up listening to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater sound tracks religiously, this band was a major throwback. They fit that skater punk vibe perfectly.
Lot Lizards are also a three piece band, which I will always have a love for. Something about three dudes performing, and at least one person having to pull double duty with an instrument and vocals will always be awesome to me.
The lead single “Surprise Party” is probably my favorite song of the whole project. For the opening vocal line, I was hooked. It brings a sense of aggression that I love in my music. The lead singer brings some truly unique vocals to this track, that have made me listen to the song probably 20 times since I found it. That’s not even mentioning the kick-ass guitar solo, or the drums that truly capture the essence of skate punk.
The lyrics of this song paint a very relatable picture. It talks (more like yells) about wanting to help a friend, and the anger/disappointment you feel when they mess up. With lyrics like “You’re headed straight for death” and “You’re running out of places, to hide from you” you can tell that the singer really wants to help his friend, and how much that friend’s self destruction hurts. That is something that almost anyone can identify with. And when it’s wrapped up in this melodic package, you’ll want to sing along too.
Overall, the Lot Lizards are a kick ass band who I think will have a bright future ahead of them. As soon as they make a stop in my area of Texas, I know that I’m gonna be in that crowd, experiencing their sound in person.
