Mexico vs Japan

by Jimena October 22, 2025 5:09 pm Tagged With: Futbol, Liga MX, Mexico, Oakland, Seleccion, Soccer

On September 6th, the Oakland Coliseum was electric as Mexico faced Japan in a sold out international friendly. Over 40,000 fans packed the stadium, creating an atmosphere that was loud, colorful, and full of heart.

What made the night even more special was the unity that filled the stands. Fans who are usually rivals when it comes to the Liga MX. Supporters of Chivas, América, Tigres, and more all came together to cheer as one for Mexico. No matter who you root for on a normal weekend, there’s something magical about seeing everyone set those rivalries aside to celebrate Mexico as a whole. It’s a reminder of how sports can unite people across teams, cities, and even generations.

The celebration started long before kickoff. Out in the parking lots, both Mexico and Japan fans were having a blast, grilling, dancing, singing, and just enjoying the moment. Even when cars tried to move through the crowds, everyone helped each other out, keeping the vibe fun and respectful. It was pure joy, a community at its best.

It was also beautiful to see so many people proudly waving the Mexican flag, wearing the colors, and showing their pride for their culture and roots. In a time where representation matters more than ever, that kind of energy hits differently, it feels powerful, emotional, and collective.

Even with some challenges behind the scenes, like the unfortunate theft of equipment from the Mexico team, Coach Javier Aguirre kept a positive and professional attitude during his press conference. His focus was on giving fans a good game and supporting his players. A reflection of true leadership and love for the sport.

For anyone planning to attend a big match like this, here’s my recommendation: get there early. With tens of thousands of people driving into one venue, parking can get hectic fast. Plan ahead, know where you’ll park, how you’ll get to the stadium, and give yourself time to enjoy the pre-game celebrations.

Being invited as media for this event was an experience like no other. Seeing the energy up close, meeting fans, and witnessing how the game connects people reminded me exactly why I love what I do. I’m also hopeful to see more women in these rooms, covering and contributing to these incredible moments in sports.

The Mexico vs. Japan match wasn’t just a game, it was a celebration of culture, community, and pride. No matter the score, everyone left with their heads high, voices gone from cheering, and hearts full of love for the game and for Mexico.
