Tribe of Midnight spoke with JediBret via G+ Hangouts on Air, the other day for  a video interview. They were also kind enough to send in the text version. Kristal, Dustin, Alec, Shown and Grant are laying down some serious Southern Rock for the middle Tennessee area, and will be performing at the MusicTree Festival in Manchester.

This is the premier of the festival, and the whole town is on pins and needles with anticipation. Coffee Co. has been the home of Bonnaroo, for over a decade, now, and this year as all the folks start arriving early, they will not only have something to do, but something, related to the reason for being here – independent music! With 85 bands on 6 stages for 7 days, there will be shows of all types for all sorts of tastes!

How long have you been playing?

Dustin & Kristal have been writing together for over ten years. Tribe of Midnight has been playing together for almost two years now.

How did you get together?
Dustin and Kristal have had several band projects in the past and formed Tribe of Midnight in August of 2010 after moving to the Nashville area from Los Angeles.

What do you do for fun? You know, besides music…
Beach time, Boating, Rafting/Tubing, Movies – Concerts… well, that’s music.

How’s the music scene in your home town?
The rock scene in Nashville is pretty locked down. If you are in, you’re in. If not, good luck creating a fan base and dodging the “pay to play” situations.

What’s on your personal playlist this week?
Chevelle, Gotye, The Black Keys, Zeppelin, Kirk Franklin, Cage The Elephant

Can you pin-point the moment that you knew you wanted to be a performing musician?
Dustin was about 15 when he was handed a Guitar and shown a few basic blues chords. That was it. Kristal was born to sing and as early as a toddler has been performing for anyone that will watch.

What are your goals as a musician? How far would you like to go, what do you see as the next big hurdle?
Ultimate Goal: play music full time. It doesn’t really matter what that looks like. We would love to reach a level where our tunes would be considered for movie soundtracks and/or we would be solicited to create music beds, with or without vocals for the entertainment industry. Our current hurdle is getting people that don’t know us to come to our shows. Once they see our live show, they become a fan. Sound familiar?  The focus right now is to work on a local fan base.

Describe one of your most memorable moments in music.
We had a CD Release Party in April of 2011 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville.  That was pretty cool.

Tell us about some of your musical influences.
Led Zeppelin, Heart, Janis Joplin, Steve Perry, Chris Cornell, Soundgarden, STP, Alice in Chains, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Blues…. anything Rock.

Where would you choose to build a vacation home?
The Bahamas would be nice.

How do you feel about being a part of the Music Tree Festival?

We are pretty stoked and can’t wait for the opportunity to play for some folks who have never heard of us or seen our show.
